An older gentleman who is downsizing gave me a coffee can full of cast boolits.
They are labeled 314299/ sized .312/ 205 grain.
They are gas checked.
He recommend 13 grains of Red Dot as his favorite 303 load.
I'm out of Red Dot at the moment.
My experience is limited with cast in a rifle.
I was wondering if any out there can tell me about there experiences with this boolits.
Thanks

Well, I can tell you I shoot that exact load in my Enfield. 13 grains of red dot is one of the standard cast loads and has been referred to as "THE LOAD" for all military cartridges larger than 30-30. One thing I do different though is sizing. I size mine at .314 and cast with wheel weights +2% tin. My rifle from 1917 is no tack driver but I can hit a water filled gallon milk jug at 100 yards every time.

I use that bullet, sized .314 in Mosin Nagant 91/30, but typically use IMR 4198 or H 4198. I like it a lot. I've shot them tumble lubed with liquid alox and also by normal lube methods.

A charge of 16-18 grains of #2400 will also work well with that bullet, as will also 30 grs. of RL7, 3031, 4895, 4064, RL15 or Varget.

it works very well in the 31 cal rifles.
I use it mainly in my 7.65 argies on top of 16 grs of 2400 [first and last load tried]

I got to find something else to do with the accurate mold I have now.
I made some boolits from it and tried these 314's first since they were ready to go and it was more than enough accuracy.

V good boolit, red dot 13gr is a good load too. I use Unique too, 9 to 13gr with v good results out to a hundred meters.
be well

The 314299 sized .311 is the most accurate boolit in my worn throat Krag sporter. Two loads that work well are 13.6 grains of 2400 for a light load and 31 grains of IMR 4064 for a mid range load. Since your 303 and the 30-40 have almost identical case capacities, these loads may work well for you as well.

I use this boolit as well in my #4 mk1 sized .313-4 my magic load is 16 gr of 2400.

That is my favorite bullet for my Finn model 27. When I saw how well it shot I went out and bought another 314299 bullet mold as it was the first cast bullet I made that shot so well. Think the moisin nagant rifles and carbines are the most under rated ones out there. Frank

Thank you for all the information. I am scrubbing all the copper fouling out of my #4 mk2 before I start this project.

Hee Hee! Good luck! Most Enfield rifles will be good and fouled!

I have had good luck with reduced loads using 311299 with 12 grains of Unique or 20 grains of 2400 in 7.7x58, 303 British and 7.65x53. Have not tried it on 7.62x54R, but see no reason these loads would not work. These loads will also work in .30/06 and .308 Winchester.

12gr. Unique works very well indeed with @314299 sized to .312" in my M 39 Finnish Nagant. Ditto the .30-06, albeit with a slightly lighter CB.
