Yesterday got to try out come cast bullets in 44 mag and 38 special. It was my first time loading 148 grain HBWC. Couldn't find bullseye so used red dot 2.8 grains and it's metering was not great. But it shot perfectly to the sights on my 442 at 10 yards. And was just scary accurate in my 4" python. I put 4 loads through the chronograph and avg velocity through the snub was 675 fps with an extreme spread of 2 fps which is lowest extreme spread I've ever had. Moving on to the 44 magnum. It is a 29-3 with 8 3'8" barrel. Loaded 255 grain cast performance WFN over 10 grains of unique. Shot 5 over the chronograph with average velocity 1154 fps and ES was 28 fps. 3 shot group at 50 yards was little under 3 inches. Seems like might be some slight leading which I wasn't counting on at that speed. Does the 44 magnum load sound like solid deer round ? The deer I've killed with this gun were with jacketed bullets. But I want this hard cast load to work cause it's easy on my pristine 29-3 and don't like shooting hot jacketed loads through it. What you guys think?

What alloy are you using and are they gas checked?

Just asking because of the slight leading in the 44mag.

That load will be very effective on deer.

Are these commercial cast bullets or bullets that you cast. I would suspect the leading is a size issue or lube.

I have no idea I do not cast would love to though. I bought them from cast performance, and they are plain base bullet. It might not be leading I tried looking but have hard time seeing it. Looks like if it is lead it is just mainly the first inch or so barrel.

They are cast performance wide flat nose LBT style hunting bullet is what the box says. If my memory is correct I believe the brinel hardness is 20 or 22 if that helps.
