Lee 230g in sabot

The 230g lee with two 50g clean shot pellets out of 26" stag horn cva.
Shot 4" off the hood of the truck at 90 paces. I think the hornady 240g
and sabot shot just a little better, but the lee bullets i was shooting were
rejects.
Think i will hunt with them.
The lead came from 38+p LSW with hollow bases picked up at a small
range.
Just a couple weeks!!!!

Slower that I would have thought too. But, I have never used Clean Shot.

100gr. of Loose FFg from Goex will produce about 1850 in my .50 cals...all three of them are from T/C...two Hawkens and a Penn Hunter. (90 gr.of FFFg will pass the 1900 mark in both of the Hawkens)

I suspect both Buckshot, and Ric may know what is happening there, but IMO that is way low.

Did you get any leading from this? Seems to me there would have been considerable blow-by, resulting from too small a projectile, but these guys will probably know.

Am I looking at those right? Over 500 FPS spread on velocity. I would think you have an ignition or chrono problem.

I like the Lee 452-228-1R HP, sized in Lee sizer to .451, in TC sabot, and so does my .54. 5shot 1" at 100yds. My powder measure is metric and I use Pyrodex, so I'm not sure exactly what the charge equivalent is, but the volume is 7ml - I think around 110gr BP equivalent is in the ballpark. Neither do I know the velocity, as the last time we tried chronographing m/l's my dad placed the unit a little too close to the muzzle and blew the screens off of it. Now the rule is Only Smokeless. Oh well, live and learn.... [smilie=1:
