I'd say you got a wood chuck [marmot] if the hole is bigger than 4"s around.
it's about the time of year the little ones move out.
you should see where it was eating the grass.

Looks like hog rooting to me, but I'm guessing you don't have hogs where you are?

That poop sure looks like pig poop. Hogs root around and dig the tender roots up just like that. look for tracks that are similar to a deer track but more rounded in front. I wood follow the spoor into any wooded area near there and look for mud about knee high on the trees. Don't forget to take a 35 REm with your cast boolits along JIC.

looks like hogs to my untrained eye. They certainly tear a field up like that.

"from the land of sky blue waters" is normally Minnesota but feral pigs are not an issue in MN.

If that was Texas I'd say you had feral hogs. I'd invest in a game camera and see what shows up. I'm betting on porkers. If you're a farmer, my condolences. If you're a hunter; congrats!

Actually I have heard reports of wild hogs in MN. Southeast corner hill country and some out to my west at the head of the Minnesota and Red Rivers. Scat looks a lot like what that woodchuck left on my deck last year when he was up eating the potted plants...

I'd have to say hogs as well. Kill 'em all. Do it quick. Once they know you're onto them it will be 10x harder. And they get smart REAL fast.

I would say grubbing raccoons but it could also be skunks. Skunks are usually a little neater than your picture but raccoons do that kind of damage.

A trail cam would provide the answer.

My first thought was voles. I have seen a lot of fields with vole damage similar to your pictures. Is there any chance the pile of poop could be random or from a predator who was trying to catch a vole?
