I am planning to cast for the .458 SOCOM and would appreciate any suggestions on molds and load data. I am starting with the NOE 405/ 460 and the Lee 450/ 459 HB. Thanks.

That sounds like a good place to start. Try them and let us know how they do.

All I have left is receiver ejection port mod work to be completed then assemble on mine. My buddy has his up and running and we have discovered that .5 gr. over seems to put you in the bad lands with flattened primers and flow. The information pile we have collected runs pretty wide on individual bullets and jacket vs. cast in similar weights. I kindly suggest you being cautious and slowly ascend up into your loads. Pop to pain available with this round, looking forward to mine getting hot. Then I am going to take it on some airboat rides and show it the marsh, let it climb up on a ladder stand and sit this fall.

I will, as soon as I get the dies and brass.

Thanks, I plan on starting with IMR 4198 and go from there.

Several guys over at the .458 forum have the NOE 405 and say it works well. I just got the 350gr RD which I did not get to shoot yet. The lower band is pain to get to fill out but it fits in the .458 well around 2.020" COAL.(checked in chamber gauge for my barrel) Accurate has several designs for the .458 socom that I want to get cut in the future.(46-265S, 46-295S, 46-325S and 46-350S) Along with a few of the VGs.

I'm using the Lee 500 RFGC. Only 20 rounds down range, and haven't done much accuracy testing, but a healthy dose of 4198 puts it out the bore at 1250 fps. Function is fine, recoil is stout.

I like how my NOE cast, but it only drops at 385.. I still plan on using it, but wish it was a 405.

Stout may be an understatement.

Thats pretty light. What alloy are you using?

50/50 Linotype and lead, or wheel weights. NOE offered to send me a cherry or a refund, but I declined.

Half lino will drop the weight a bit.

385 grains probably won't bounce off.
