More distracting than use full, I think.
Watch the car on the screen in front of you as you run into the back of the trailer.

I think I remember just a while back I heard that the government wants to make it mandatory for any vehicle that you can't see around. Wonder how much this is gonna cost us. I pull a cattle trailer, will I have to have one? I'm getting tired of protecting fools from them selves. If they want to pass without looking let'em pass

Now if they play a good movie that's different.

And when you are driving down a gravel road and a vehicle passes and tosses a big rock into the screen I wonder how much that is going to set you back?

Wait till someone gets mean and starts showing pre recorded clear lanes.

No matter how many useless gimmics they come up with you just can't fix stupid! How about instead of more useless gimmics auto drivers learn not to tailgate trucks so they can have better vision around the truck AND the truck driver can see more of what's behind him. Auto drivers also need to learn where the blind spots are around a truck (roughly from the door to the back of the truck's tandems) and stay out of that area unless you can pass QUICKLY! Another VERY dangerous place is to drive alongside a truck, especially near the axles. If you happen to be close to an axle and the outside tire blows, the steel cable in the tire can cut the top right off a car in short order! A little common sense will go MUCH further making sure everyone gets to wherever they are going in one piece than all the gimmics the nerds can think up combined!

Cop to truck driver, your rear passing screen is covered with road dirt and snow, that will be $150.00 fine thank you.

I have seen so many drivers back into kick up dock plates. They take out the bottom of the door.
That would be an expensive oopsie with that screen there.

I'd play porn on it.

A definate issue with distracted drivers... It does not seem likely that people could gauge the speed and distance of oncoming traffic based on the forshortened distances on the screen. Stereo vision works how well with a flat panel?

What if you are heading into the sunset? Plenty of roads run east-west, smack dab into the sun... Let's give the camera maker the credit for making a camera that won't bloom when heading into a low angle sun. What about the flat panels on back?

I'd say let this get the kinks out before mandating it...

Anyways, just what problem is this trying to solve?
How does it help anything?

Keep a safe following distance, and you're fine.

Show me a tractor trailer that can stop quicker than a 4 wheeler.
One of the reasons that I would rather follow a big rig than be in front of one, I know I can stop quicker than he can.

What good would being able to see what's in front of a big rig do me?

How about instead of passing slower moving vehicles you just give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going. Oh wait...that is common sense...nevermind.

Simple solution. Outlaw long haul trucks and put freight on trains were it belongs.

From some of the comments, I bet you'd find something wrong with free money.
It's just an attempt to use technology, to make Australian roads safer. It's not a gov thing. Nor is it political.

That was one of Bill Clintons more ignorant thoughts.

Well since it's all on the car guys at this point why don't ticket all the trucks and motor homes that hug the dots and force you to have headlights over the line to see around then the hug the white line rumble strip in all the double yellows . While we're writing you're donkey tickets let's get a few out for the knobs that drive 10 under for unpassable miles then run 10 or more over in all of the passing lanes only to slow down again the instant you can't pass. Also my personal favorite the rooster muncher that over takes by 10 plus mph when you're running 5 over then rides your donkey for 35 miles even when you pull clear over the white liNE for over a mile slowed more that 45 mph under the posted limit on the stretch that you can only see about 5 miles of on coming traffic and isn't any ? I shouldn't have read this . I have road rage kicking it next to the press.

As for the truck window I actually think it looks like a good idea ,but I can also that guy that won't pass getting fixated and driving into the back of the truck.

Want better drivers make them all learn to drive skinny bias ply 4 speed unloaded 4 wheel drum pick ups or pre 74 Bugs . Get the brakes wet ,get them stuck and get them all crossed up on ice and snow or at least a slick place and actually teach them how to drive not just point a car down the road.
Nevermind that would cause people to have to be responsible and stuff....
