Greetings from Detroit! I just wanted to say hi to the community. I've been following some of the threads on here over on AR15.com, and recently got into casting and soon swaging- saving up beads and wampum to buy my first BTSniper swaging dies, they look well worth it.

Welcome! These folks here will teach you how to spend thousands to save hundreds. It's an addiction, and the feeling of being more self sufficient makes it all seem like it makes sense.

Welcome and friendly advice. Stay away from the group buys for the custom/semi custom mold makers. I got into one and now I can't stop. Does anybody want to buy a kidney? :-D Seriously, once you used one of the better than commercial molds out there you won't go back to the others.

HAHA- I was just looking at one of those threads the other day. It looks like 'trouble.'

Nah, he complains too much, the shaved ice in the tub made the stitches tingle....

Don't be too much in a rush to blow by the molds for the masses. Some are historical oddities. Some are just SO classic, you get 'em (like the 460562...).

It is a good thing to start out with well mannered molds, get used to playing with alloys, cadence, temperature, sprue plates, venting, pressure, etc BEFORE you pick up an old school non-vented large cavity mold... The confidence will make you curious about the finer details after ten or so casting sessions.

RCBS molds have pretty much been a rain of boolits. Lyman it depends. NEI, NOE, Accurate, MP... I lust for 'em, but I can only grow my kidneys back so fast....

With some experience, you can adapt to molds with "character" if you have to. Casting is different than machining, but both processes can turn out different results based on a number of variables...
