Hi guys and girls. I just joined up - it looks to be a great forum you have here.

My name is Neil, and I'm a 34 year old gardener/pest controller from the UK. I haven't managed to fill out my profile yet but I thought it would be polite to say hello and tell you a little about myself before I start with the questions! I'm new to bullet casting, which is how I found myself here in the first place.

I look forward to getting to know you all. No doubt there will be a few members who know me from elsewhere but generally speaking I'm a newbie to this subject. I've been shooting for over 20 years and have held powder burning firearms for around eight but have only recently put my name to a .45-70, which I feel is a very worthy calibre to start casting for.

Anyway, I'm off to do a bit more reading and probably ask a few common questions... newbies 'ay, always asking the same old stuff!:veryconfu

Go ahead and ask NJC. If anybody gives you a hard time, they don't remember what it was like. LOL!
If there's anything I can do to help you, don't hesitate to ask. I cast and shoot a lot of 45-70 in lever action rifles.
Welcome to Castboolits!

Welcome. I'm just beginning to get serious about loading for a .45-70 (well, "serious" is a relative term). I've only been working with Trapdoor level loads with pretty light for caliber bullets, but it's a fun cartridge to load and shoot.

Had a Browning BPCR in 45/70 for about 12 years , it liked the Saeco #020 540 gr rn bullet , sold the gun & bullet mould , still have some of the 020's laying around.

Welcome to the madness! The 45-70 was my first Marlin lever and I fell in love with levers ever since.

I had my Marlin 45-70 up at the Arizona shoot in Payson this last weekend - made up some mild plinkers for the kids (of all ages) to try it - amazingly versatile cartridge.

45-70--the only Gov't I need!

Welcome to the crew, and imho, you couldn't possibly be starting with a better cartridge.

Howdy from Kentucky USA. What variety of weapon do you have chambered for 45/70?

Welcome Aboard! There is a lot of casting knowledge here, just ask away. The 45-70 is a favorite on here.

Welcome aboard and I'm in the minority, I don't shoot 45-70.

Welcome njc110381,
Yes, I think 45-70 is very worthy...if fact, I can't quite imagine what commercial ammo of that caliber would cost in the UK ? :veryconfu

I also, just started casting/reloading for 45-70.
Below are some freshly cast 405gr boolits from a NOE 460-405-RF mold

If you are like most of us, you will be in a constant leaning mode as there is so much information that it is difficult if not impossible to digest it all at once.
