I have a post 64 winchester 94. There are a few parts I'd like to get as spares. Loading gate being one of those parts. Will the pre 64 loading gate work in a post 64 rifle? I dont have a problem with minor fitting.

Id like to have a carrier/shell lifter as a spare, will that interchange?

Are there any other parts that are known to interchange?

Thanks

.

IDK about the fit, but IMHO I would advise that you don't over think it.

I've been shooting/hunting with the same 1978 Model 94 .30-30 Trapper since 1980, w/o issue one.

I'm sure that I'm not alone in that experience.

The usual suspects, in Model 94 issues, will usually result from abuse, neglect (rust) and/or accident (cracked stock) - so, if you take care of your Model 94, it will most likely take care of you.

Google "classic firearms & parts" He has everything you need for a post 64, and the parts are new old stock. He bought up USRA when FNH bought the Winchester name.

I do know the pre-64 butt stock fits a 92/94, but not a post 94 tang. Inletting is different.

The loading gate on the newer rifles is shorter than the older ones.
There are other parts that will not fit/work without some work.

Finding a loading gate for a pre-64 model 94 if some kind of hard, might be easier to buy another rifle for parts.

Are all the post 64 parts interchangeable or is there variations between early, mid, late manufactured rifles?

I definitely take care of my firearms. But accidents do occur. I had my rifle leaned up in a living room chair the other day, and one of my dogs, half boxer/half pit, jumped in the chair and knocked the rifle off. Naturally, with the floor being a "sights magnet" It broke the rear sight off. Not just bent it or knocked it loose. I relaced it with a marble rear sight.

I do know for fact that the trigger from a pre-64 will fit if you swap the post 64 trigger/sear roll pin for a pre-64 trigger/sear solid pin. I actually used a 1/8" drill bit shank for mine, which is the same diameter. The pre-64 trigger is much nicer than the post-64 in my opinion. No difference in pull, but the tolerance on the trigger pivot is tighter so less trigger flap, the face profile is smoother and more comfortable, and the trigger in my post-64 actually was cracked from hitting something during a trip/fall and it appears to be an injection molded piece of metal that is rather brittle which is what prompted me to swap it out of my rifle.

From what im told, there are differences between the post 64 and angle eject tangs, so that stocks will not interchange. Can anyone verify this? I have the angle eject version.

I swapped a post 64 lower tang and trigger assy into my .357 94 AE. No problem with stock fit on my AE. All I had to due was grind off the two side keys on the lower tang to fit the 94AE receiver.

I've been having some misfires, and working towards a solution. I have learned that there was at least 3 trigger assemblies made. First, was

1 leaf spring with half cock notch
2 a coil spring, but still retain the half cock notch
3 coil spring, rebounding hammer.

There is a picture i found showing the differences. All of them have a hollow pin for the hammer pivot. Now, there is one on ebay that has a large roll pin for the hammer pin. Not sure about that, but it appears to be a pre 64, and would swap pins out?

Well i traded off the winchester AE i had, and got a more vintage winchester 94. This one is made in 71. Quite a bit better quality and very slick compared to what i had. It does have some wear on the receiver finish, but that doesnt bother me. It has a lot of character and is in good mechanical shape.
