I just wanted to crow for a bit. I've recently begun casting my own Boolits and am finally hitting a good place where my Boolits are looking great and are also shooting great!

I recently bought a lot of three Lee molds and got around to casting the 158 grain 358 SWC's. Almost all dropped in great shape with good definition and few deformities. Out of the 233 pills I cast only 9 were rejected to the remelt bucket.

This week I loaded 50 of them in .38 SPL cases with 4 grains of W231. Holy cow these shoot great. I took my S&W 64-6 DAO out today and so long as I did my part these just about all went to POA at 7 or 8 yards.

Anyhow, I am giddy as hell. Thanks for letting me revel in my joy! :bigsmyl2:

That's exactly why I do this, now your hooked! Don't get discouraged when you have an off day because they will come just less frequently.

And just think you can do it again when you want to. As long as you have lead of course :?

Good job! I also enjoy hunting with my cast boolits. I like the load work up prior to the season. It seems to lengthen the hunting season. And there is always something special to me when the game I have taken have been with my own boolit.

Welcome to the addiction!

Soon you'll find yourself buying guns in calibers you don't already own, just so you can cast something else :)

You're done for. ;)

After decades of reloading I started casting bullets for 38 Special and it was a game changer. I'll never buy a J-word bullet for a 38 Special again.

I finally got "Minute of Hog" at 100 yards yesterday. No where near what I'm striving for, but satisfying non the less. Six inch "Shoot-n-See" targets with 7 different loads and 98% (2 pulled shots) were on target with the Mosin Nagant and .308 Tikka. All were PC'd (red) and powder was Unique. Fun day at the range.

You have every right to feel good about this, and it is indeed a good feeling the first time you shoot your own cast boolit's with good effect! That's what I love about this, you get the boolit's you want , in the alloy you want, the diameter you want and the lube that you want. As already said, your hooked now buddy, enjoy!

Thanks gang. I'm a tinkerer at heart, I've been reloading for years both because I like to tinker and because I shoot so much I need to save money where I can. And of course the bonus is I get better ammo, save money and have a good time getting there.

As for .38 Special, Yup. I'll never buy another bullet for that. Or for my .44 Special.

And the addiction has taken root. I've been known to buy a firearm based on a hunk of brass I found! That's what got me my first .44 Special.

As it stands I hand load for 28 different calibers that I actually shoot. I have an extensive collection of pistols and rifles.

The only calibers I shoot that I do not yet load for are 32ACP and 50BMG.

Congratulations. It's a great feeling when you hit that breakthrough point. That boolit is one of the first molds I ever owned when I branched out from my dad and got my own stuff. I soon learned about breaking in the Lee molds, but I did get good boolits before long with information from this site.

That's still one of my favorite designs, but I cast them from a 6 cavity now.

Loading for the .32 ACP is fun. Lets you shoot all kinds of interesting guns at a low cost.
I have been loading .32 ACP for 40 years or so with bullets cast in a Lyman 311252 using Bullseye or Win 231.

I already cast 32 cal pills. I just need to find a cheap set of 32ACP dies.

I already know there is no such thing as cheap dies for 50BMG :D
