I'm trying to get a rough estimate on the total # of bullets I can make with 800 pounds of lead.

Molds I have are: 148gr, 198gr, 200gr, 180gr, 155gr.

If add these up and divide into 800 x 7000 grains, wouldn't that get me the very least amount I can make?

5,600,000 / 881 (total grains of moods I have) = 6,300+ bullets.

You phrased it strangely, but I think you're math looks correct.

My try at it......

If divided equally..... 800/5=160# of lead allotted per mold.
So the 148gr yields 7567 boolits. (per its allotted 160# of lead, and so forth)
The 198gr yields 5656 boolits.
The 200gr yields 5600 boolits.
The 180gr yields 6222 boolits.
The 155gr yields 7225 boolits.

Total pile of boolits numbers 32,270.

or.... your average mold size is 176.2gr, yielding a total of 31,782. (rounding makes up the difference).

The way I figger it, divide 7000 by 200(the heaviest boolit you have). that equals 35/ea per pound, x 800 lbs equals 28,000.

7000 gn/#.

Can't get any simpler than that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry about it and get to casting! That is what I do.

I do hope are are not casting just pure lead of anything but BP! You need to have some Sn and Sb in there which changes the weight/boolit based upon the mold cavity weight rating

That is why I said don't even worry about it!

Since you added the grain weight of your 5 moulds, your 6300 count represents the number of quintets you'd have. So, multiply your 6300 by 5 to get 31,500, in agreement with the other calculations.

You just did the math for an 881 grain bullet :)

If you want an average number, you could divide 881 by 5, which equals 176.2.

Using this as the average bullet weight, you would have 31,782 bullets.

Psych major here! ;) Thanks guys! That makes more sense the 800lbs into 5 or doing the average weight of 1 mold.

31k isnt bad. Should be more as I forgot bout some lino for the 30 cal bullets.

And . . don't forget you are going to loose some when fluxing and removing slag . . .

Yes.........Lino will make your boolits lighter (depending on your mix) that just pure lead.

You mean 6300+ of each size by your math. That is correct.

It sounds like you are calculating that lifetime supply question! :?

Your lifetime, maybe, but it depends on how much you shoot! :)

In a way. I'm 33 and live in California. Would not put it past them to ban or limit ammo in the years that I shoot. Figure learning to cast and stocking up on lead is the best best. Lead wheel weights have been banned for 5 years already.

I see that if you cast an equal number of bullets at each of your supplied weights your numbers are close on paper.
I have yet to cast to and expected number or bullets for raw product put into pot, skimming, dross ext.
And again I have started to cast a certain amount of bullets and come up with excess on my calucations, mostly due to in the process and things are going well, keep adding ingots.
My 2 cents anyways.

Extend your life, load for the .25-20 Win. Lyman257420 = 65 gr. 86,153.8 bullets
-or the .22 Hornet; Lyman225438 = 44 gr, 127,272.7 bullets

A fella could live longer...forever??? Got powder? :bigsmyl2:

Word problems? My middle-school math teacher has joined the forum to torture me!

It'll make a butt-load of boolits. How's that?
