I recently picked up a 412385 boolit mould... No vents, detachable blocks. The construction of the blocks screams Ideal / Lyman, but other than the boolit number, there are no marks on the blocks.

Smooth block faces, ornate font. I didn't see this in the 1900 handbook, or in the specials in the 1929. Boolit has been cast with what appears like WW, poorly fluxed.

Though marked 412, measurements show otherwise at this time. I had to measure with the boolit in the mould, as the sprue is in the hole. Most likely works fine with 20:1 or softer above black powder. The Lub grooves seem to suggest use with BP as well.

OAL of boolit is 1.218

Top band - .404 (right where nose meets groove diameter)
Second - .404
Third - .404
Fourth - .411
Fifth - .411
Sixth - .411 (base band

Look at the trunctuated cone screw head.

This shows the way the sprue plate is relieved for the stop pin.

I would say ideal also.
no vent lines and the alignment pins look correct.
as well as the style of the stamped numbers and the boolit design itself.

maybe back searching from the cartridge [by boolit diameter] might help, I think this one is a little bigger than the 40-65 win and might be for the 405.

Erk, I banged about in my list, and through the Three Peaks stuff. This does not appear in the 58 Lyman, but I wouldn't expect that.

There was a 40-85 Winchester for the 1886, but so far no hits 1870-1930 that have any specific boolit identified.

Also for more info lyman and ideal sold blank blocks to custom makers so may be lyman idea blocks and a custom makers cavity cut in it. Alot of T Ballards moulds were cut on lyman blank blocks.
