USPS flat rate prices went way up

I just noticed the USPS flat rate shipping rates.
Seems to be getting to the point that it's not such a great deal anymore.

I remember in marketing class the #1 rule was....
"It's easier to sell 100 things at $1 each, than one a $100."
I'm thinking government never took that class.

I just looked at the USPS site. Post office prices: SFRB $5.95, MFRB $12.65, LFRB $17.90. How is this "way up"?

A large flat rate box is $15.80 if you print the postage online. $16 to get 70 pounds from PA to HI seems pretty reasonable to me...

What is your more economical alternative?

First class stamps went up, but not flat rate shipping. I print and use a LOT of flat rate labels, I would notice if they went up, let alone way up...

I wonder if the counter person the op delt with didn't screw up, shipped a mold the other day and they had 40 bucks for shipping, asked the lady and got "oh I must have hit the wrong item" she fixed it but you have to wonder if it was a screw up or intentional.

The large box went from $15 to over $17 in one jump, the med box was $12 and went to $15 . The small box seems to have stayed at around $6 which is the same as before.

LFRB is still $17.90, with discount available if you buy postage online or through Ebay, MFRB is still $12.65, with discount available, , SFRB is still $5.95, with discount available. Now, IF you buy more than the insurance that comes with the FRB, the price is higher. Sure that is not what you are seeing?

They did, but that wasn't a recent price increase. And the current prices are still the best deal going to move heavy boxes within the USA.

Boxes I use to ship cleaning mats typically run $5.25-$5.54 and I haven't noticed an increase... but I use paypal multi order shipping and they get a nice discount! And yes guys I charge $6 shipping for simplicity! Also have to pay for tape, my time folding up those goofy boxes...

I guess I just don't ship as much as some of you.
Last time I remember it was $15.
To me, $2 out of $15 is a big jump.

For those shipping alot, you may want to check out the Priority "regional Boxes". The closer the destination the cheaper it is. The boxes are close in size to the Flat Rate boxes, but have weight limits on them. The A box is 15 lbs,B box is 20 lbs, and the C box is 25 lbs. It has saved my customers about 40% on in-state orders.

if you know you're goin' to need them a lot you can also buy flatrate boxes with forever prepaid labels on them. like the forever stamps they'll still be good no matter how much postage goes up. then all ya need to do is fill in the shippin' info & hand'em to the mailman.

I remember it a bit differently...

"It's easier to sleep with 20 women in one night than sleep with one woman 20 times in a night."

Hmmm... Maybe that was a different college course...
