First, I travelled through the caverns of lead.

This sucker goes in about 3/4 of an inch. On rappel! On belay!

I finally found a good use for the bottom pour lever on my Pro-Melt.

Both molds are held safely on the pot rim. I'd buy that for a dollar!

This is a crying shame.

The left side of the "A" and the horizontal part are all quite wrinkled, inclusions, or both. I culled the left side and the horizontal boolits. What the RCBS rotary thermostat says and what the lead thermometer said were different. I just used my lead thermometer to set at 725, and the 321232 started to throw good boollits... What made me wonder is almost every boolit had a nice base.

321232 base is .324", OAL is .945".

OTOH, the 280468s was stellar.

Most dropped from the mould. Biggest killer was inclusions. This is 2/3rds of the cast, the other 1/3 was culled. Most of those were shootable.

280468s, .283" -ish diameter. .785" OAL. Nose ends up with .270 diameter just before the first groove.

Now this is good flux....

After trials and tribulations, I picked up the sprues and returned them to the pot. Let it get nice and steamy hot (725) then I just stuck the butt of the beexwax chunk into the pot. After a bit of it melted, I took it out of contact and waited. As I watched, it turned a dark brown / black, and pulled away from the side of the pot. Curious, I tapped the crust with my steel spoon. It cracked a wee bit, some of the molten lead peeked through. I then spooned up the cracklin goodness and discarded it.

My 280468 casts at .280 pretty much on the bottom but that's COWW alloy.

I just ran some 280468s (short version), using my mystery lead, dropped right out of the mold @ .284/.285.

This pot is a little softer than WW, it's about half pure lead and half WW. It should be @ 10-12 BHN. It's got more lead, and should cast to a smaller diameter. Should....

oland what are you shooting the 280468 in? I use that bullet for my 270win.

Contender 23" 6.8 SPC, the original chambering (not SPC II).

I really groove on the size of the case compared to the bullet size. Got some Unique waiting to be used.
