What gauge wire should be used?

I searched for an hour on here and online and found few results and no consistent answer. Every diagram of DIY plans left out the gauge / wire size that was used.

My Lee Pot will be plugging into a female socket in the back of my PID box. I'll be cutting an extension cord and the male end will be plugged into the wall and fished through a hole in the box for a fixed plug.

I found many use 14ga wire. Some say 12ga. Others use 18ga for everything.

I'm running a Mypin SSR T4A and a SSR with heatsink. Nothing else. No lights or terminal strips.

14 is certainly heavy enough for this. Naturally 12 is better but Lee pots don't draw that much. The 18 that is mentioned in posts is just for signal wires not the current carrying one's to feed the lead pot.

I used 12 ga. 14 ga should be adequate too. Make certain you use multi-strand wire, not solid core.

UL approved extension cord, 14 ga. I just cut the cord and use the receptacle to plug in.
