What would work to form 6.5 jap. brass? Was using 35 Rem but it is as hard to find as the Arisaka Brass

It can be made from 220 Swift brass also but it's just as easy to buy
new brass. You can get it from Midsouth for not to much money.

If you have a lathe .303 Brass is probably the best alternative.

6.5 Jap chambers are way bigger than the 6.5 brass at the head giving a huge bulge in the brass.

Use RP or WW .303 brass which is about .451 to .452 at the head.

Form the case then cut the rim to fit your bolt face.

At least the bolt face in my rifle is much larger than the bolt face for Norma and PPU brass.

grafs has ppu brass for sale here http://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/12642. these cases will probably last forever considering the characteristics of 6.5 jap

I too have been using 35 Rem brass to make 6.5 Jap. I have had pretty good luck finding 35 brass at gun shows, dozen here, dozen there. I have found factory Norma 6.5 as well but its not cheap.

What was your process for forming them out of 35 rem. I tried it a few times but the neck crumbled into itself

I make a pass first through a 308 die , then pass through the 6.5 die. I plan to anneal after a couple reloads.

I assume you remove the decapping rod before putting it into the .308 die

Yes thats right, I usually use a plain decapping die to decap before tumbling and working the brass.

I'll have to try that the next time i get some 35 rem brass in. Right now I only have 20 pieces of hornady brass

Graf & Sons has Privi brass for $58 per 100. It works well as that is what I bought for my Type 38.

Watch ebay. I snagged several hundred from a gent that was selling dies and brass.

I've got 2 boxes of NOS norma brass that I don't want to mess with.

35 Rem is easily formed into 6.5 Jap, but it is worth more as 35 Rem. I broke down and bought the Privi and consider it a great deal. I only neck size after the initial firing so as to maximize case life.
