Need Your Help.
I have a problem loading with my S&W Model 29-3 w/6" barrel. I need loading data using 700X powder, New Winchester Brass and Standard LP Primers. I know this is not the best powder to use but its all I have. The bullets I will be using are 250gr.LLFN and 260gr.LWFN BHN 22 that I bought from Montana Pullet Works. Great Guy. Please keep in mind I am using a Smith. I would like to push the bullets between 850 and 900 FPS.
Thanks, Hank

Found only a 240 grain LSWC on Hodgdon's site:
http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/

IMR 700-X
.430" 240 grain Lead SWC

1.620"

9.5 grain

1,185 fps

40,000 CUP

Considering you are going to be using a bit heavier boolits at 250/260 grain, I would look at 7.0 grains to be on the safe side as a max and would feel more comfortable with 6.5 to 6.0 grain load. I bet you would be around 850 fps with the 6.5 grain load.

Do you have a chronograph? Start low and work up............be safe.

I shot lots of 700x powder with cast. Gallery loads. But fairly accurate. I will get the data when I get home from work.

your gonna be in the 4.5 to 5.5 area, 5.5 will be pushing it a bit.
you should have no issues starting at 4.0 and working up until you see groups develop.

Not a 44 special revolver rather a S&W 44 Magnum.

Not a 44 special revolver rather a S&W 44 Magnum. Yes, i got that. Op can start with 4.9 grs IMO.

shot a pile of Keith 250 with 7.0 of 700x. Very accurate and clean brass. Load from an old article by Mike V. Chronoed 1000 fps from a 7.5" Ruger.

I was gonna say to load around 6 grains. Others more experienced than me have suggested lower, so i would trust them. But you should be safe going up around the 7 gr thunbcocker recommends. Accuracy may suffer but you are not pushing 300 grainers at 1200 fps so the smith is not in danger

9 grains of 700X works well in my model 69
