"Some marketing companies, for instance, segment individuals into clusters like “low-income elders” (http://www.experian.com/assets/marketing-services/brochures/mosaic-brochure-october-2014.pdf) or “small town, shallow pockets” or categorize them by waistband size. The potential risk of inferior treatment is one reason that an increasing number of Internet users are downloading Ghostery, a free plug-in (https://www.ghostery.com/en/about) that allows consumers to see and control online tracking by data brokers, advertising networks and other third parties."

Metadata is totally harmless. My government told me so. Just because someone can do link analysis, or track net useage, or track "smart grid" power monitoring doesn't mean they are...

I've been using Ghostery since it came out. Everyone owes it to themselves to install Ghostery and go to your bank's site. Or for a laugh go to AR15.com. You will see close to 20 trackers on AR15 and some of my banks where almost as bad.

Been using Ghostery for a couple years, wouldn't be without it! Also run Ad Block Plus, between the 2 not much gets through!

Anyone else use ghostery?

Just installed it; a minimum of 1-2 trackers are disabled at every click of the mouse! I haven't been to BARF.com yet to see how many trackers come with it.

The good thing is that once you block them they stay blocked. Along w/ the beacons. It's an eye opener when you see how you're being tracked and targeted for advertisements. You will see Google Analytics on almost every site.

I have been using a browser called Comodo Dragon, have a site a view that pulls up newspaper articles and they'll popup a quick survey you need to answer in order to actually view the text in the article.
Well when I started using Comodo Dragon, those surveys stopped and the article text was displayed with no issues. Will take a look a Ghostery, never hurts to have multiple defenses.
