I have a 416 Ruger ordered and plan on picking it up in early July. I will be slugging the bore and the question is what company(s) make good molds, preferably double cavity in 350 to 400 grain for .416 to .418. I will be gas checking the boolits even though the MV is slow enough to put hard cast through it. Money is an objective that has to be considered. This will be used for black bear (I know, too MUCH gun) and up. Thanks in advance.

BTW the question has been asked why do I want a 416 when I already have a 450 M. My answer, do you have a 416. LOL

For the record Mike, I would NEVER ask you such an asinine question.

I just got around to pound-casting my chamber, which I will be sending to LBT for Veral to work his mojo on a 4-cavity gas check LFN. What it will weigh, I will leave largely to him, as the throat in the CZ is . . .weird. . .in that there doesn't seem to be one. It's basically .417" right in front of the case all the way to the end of the bore.

A custom cut will let you take into account the Ruger's neck length for your lube grooves. Something to ponder.

If you figure what boolit and what dimensions you need, Accurate Molds will cut you anything you want. That is so long as it has a flat point of at least .18"

The suggestions I will put forward are what I have and use in my .416 Taylor. I started with the 416 RCBS mold, later I had "Buckshot" hollow point it for me and is still in use both ways. The other is #420-330C from Accurate molds. This is a semi pointed boolet that works very nicely thru both my .416`s. I have a custom made mold for paper patching, this makes a 395 gr. boolet. I also have a nice BRP mold that drops a beauty of a 400 gr. boolet. Never under estimate the ability of a black bear to absorb bullet hits.Robert
