I think Old Abe must have been the last honest office holder from Illinois. Looks like there will be a new license plate maker in the near future.

To say Abraham Lincoln was honest is a controversial assertion. In a lot of ways he was the worst president to date, even compared with Obama.

However, the socialist education system has propagandized most people into believing he was a great man.

More to the point though, it would be equally valid to ask "Any honest politicians in the United States of America?"

Should this be in the Pit?

How can to tell if a politician is lying?

Their lips are moving.......

I'll chime in for the locals. The answer is "NO". Illinois politics is the equivalent to meth. Seems like even the ones who seem honest and good-intentioned get corrupted soon after getting elected. Ive seen nearly 60 years of it and think it has steadily worsened. A good start would be serious term limits and revocation of perks. I believe in miracles and if those two things happened then I would say I witnessed one. Cannot remember the last time I got excited about any candidate on the ballot; its more like choosing the lesser evil. Is it like that everywhere?

The whole damn state is corrupt at levels. They will sell out the tax payers in a heart beat for the littlest thing.

I remember when we were in my last contract negations before I got hurt. We wanted to make the cuts for us as painless as possible, make sure no one got layed off, ontop of ensuring there was no tax increase associated with salaries. It was all good intentions, no political BS. We had acess to accountants (on our dime)who were going to go over all of the cities books to help find waste so it could be cut. The response was NO!!! Its our money and we will spend it however we see fit!!!!! Um no, its the tax payers in this city. But that's the problem.

I saw the same thing in town we lived in. No care about how they spent our money as long as they were getting their little perks and kick backs. I know of more incidents across the state.

The bigger the politician is, the worse it seems. they don't care about what the citizens want. Only lining their pockets, living high off the hog on tax dollars and pushing their will on the population. Usally at the benefit of their buddies.

Still irraited we get hit with a big tax increase for our house in IL. Yeah, it sure as hell doesn't match with any increased extra money in our income. So I dont get how they think, people who are paying more for all the services need to live, stay healthy, transportation, etc can just come up with more.

When I was a boy my father often hauled coal from the mines in southern Illinois and he did hate to cross that bridge. The cops lay in wait for out of state truckers. We lived in southeast Missouri about 30 miles from the river. It was a different world. The last time I was in Cairo was 1995 you could have fired a machine gun down main street and hit no one. All the businesses were burned out, [for the insurance] and the only people I saw were the elderly living in government housing. A few years ago the Mississippi was at flood stage and about to flood Cairo. The Corps of Engineers told Obozo that they had to either blow the levy on the Illinois side and flood Cairo or on the Missouri side and destroy thousands of acres of good productive farm land. Of course Obozo choose to save the Democratic stronghold of Cario . He ordered them to blow the levy on the Missouri side and it turned all that beautiful bottom land into what looks like the badlands of South Dakota. The river washed away all the rich black topsoil and replaced it with river sand. My brother sent me pictures of the man made disaster.

My wife and I recently had a vacation out to canyon country in Arizona and Utah and the only reason we don't leave Illinois is the grandkids. Illinois is a huge suck hole. It always will be unless we can get rid of Crook county.

Parts of Illinois are beautiful. Most of the people are good, God fearing help your neighbor types. (I live in the southern part. This area was known as the Copperheads in the war between the States. ) We have coal, lumber, grain, and oil in abundance. But we also have an overflowing super abundance of terrible politicians and foolish policies. No good thing is too important to be sacrificed at the alter of political correctness. As my buddy says, " At least around here, when you buy a politician- he stays bought...."

Honest,Politician,Illinois. The only way these three words could be in one sentence is if you believe in Santa, Easter Bunny, and the Boogie Man.
