So there is a new wildcat round available for the AR-10 crowed that has its followers. The 45 raptor is based off of the 460 S&W magnum, but over all length is 2.3" so it does not fill the mag-well of a AR-10. There is the WSM cartridges that have been tried in the platform, but were discontinued because of broken extractors that need to be modified for the larger rim. So now we have this new wildcat based of the 460, but has a rim diameter of a 308. Because of the length of the brass is it possible to get this necked down to say a 30 cal, or .357 cal and use the full length of the mag? The brass is rated for 65K psi so I would be interested if it would be possible to finally get good 300 winmag velocity out of an AR-10 without using a wsm cartridge, or going to a heavy OMEN rifle. Starline is making the 45 raptor brass now so in essence it is a wildcat of a wildcat based of a 460. A internet search was fruitless when searching out a 460 necked down to a rifle caliber.

Kind of sounds like the .450 Bushmaster plus 250 fps and 2 pounds of weight to carry. Personally, if I'm carrying the extra 2 pounds, I want the full length of cartridge that can go with it. On the other hand, the .450 Bushmaster already does everything required inside of 300 yards, ( and we need a big bore autoloader beyond 300 yards for what exactly?) So I'm thinking, What's the point? I can do what I need done beyond 300 yards a heck of a lot simpler with a bolt gun. And if I'm going to a larger, heavier platform, why not something that can really reach out there= .338 Lapua? .50 BMG?

I'm not interested in the 45 raptor as much as wildcatting it into something useful. My current 308 AR weighs 7.5 pounds so it is not necessarily a pig like a 50 BMG. Think necked down, and a VLD long bullet in the 30 cal to 357 cal added. Take advantage of the shorter case.

Tony at Tromix is doing something similar but in a AR15 platform which limits the PSI his round is capable of using and the length of the cartridge. He is calling it a 375 SOCOM which is a 458 SOCOM necked down to 375. He is showing over 2600fps with a 200 grain bullet. I think there is a ton more potential available in the AR-10 if this is what he achieved with just the SOCOM.

Another comparable AR-15 cartridge wildcat would be the RAR30 which is a 450 bushmaster necked down to 30 cal. This would just be a larger version of that. The 30 RAR achieves 2800 fps with a 125 grain bullet. I want something you can stuff a 180 or 200 grain bullet it, and get that performance or better it so the AR-15 is out.
