No I haven't used any of my cast boolits in ML sabots but don't see any reason why you couldn't. You just have use the correct sabot for the caliber boolit you're using.

Yes Sir, lyman single cavity 370 grain 50 cal Maxi Ball. Good shooting chunk of lead and deadly on deer as well. I have also loaded this same bullet up for slugs in my 12 ga.

Well, whatever answer you get here, please, take the effort to look into the dedicated MZ forum on this website.

How could you have missed it?

I cast the Lee 45 caliber 300 grain out of pure lead. I hollow pointed one cavity and I guess it weighs about 280 with the big cavity I made. I shot a small doe with one of my homemade HPs and I found a bullet chunk inside a tenderloin from a lung shot. I guess you could say it worked.

Yes,

I load both .431" and .452" diameter boolits in various sabots for use in my .50 caliber in-line muzzle loading rifles. They work just fine, in fact better than store-bought j-word slugs. And, the price is right. Generally, I have found that gas-check design boolits sans check and without any lube work best. Plain-base boolits often do not seat to the bottom of the "el-cheapo" sabots I buy. Gas check design minus the check seat to the bottom and shoot a tiny bit more accurately. I am using LBT long flat-nose boolits with a substantial meplat. They are amazingly effective for penetration and lethality. I have never recovered a spent slug but the wound channels were impressive. since the two I am using both weigh 280 grains when cast of ACWW and age harden to about BHN15, they have no problem punching through bone or thick cartilage.

I have shot 429. cal. 240 gr and 265 gr plain base boolits in sabots for decades in my various 50 cal. muzzleloaders. The are serious medicine for elk and long range deer but I find them a bit much for even large deer at under 50 yards. They have worked well for me with either 1-28 or 1-48 twists but best accuracy has been with 1-28. My loads are always the same at 78 gr of FFF Goex. For most deer hunting applications, I prefer PRB.

Pure lead or lyman #2- any recommendations for a Lee mold - the reason I posted here instead of MZ is that this is a Cast Boolits question and not a MZ question

While I've not yet started doing it I got the Lee TL430-240-SWC and intend to PC and use them in the 44spl, 44mag and two of the 50cal smokepoles.
My usual mantra is to put the sabot/boolit in a speed loader and fill with RS.
The ones I have are 1:48 and 1:32 twist so I can get away with about anything.
This load (while being excessive) has worked fine with 370gr Maxi-Ball, 320gr REAL boolits and 180gr XTP's/sabots. So I would expect the 240gr SWC/sabot to perform equally appreciable.
