The last 2 years have been hard to go out Hunting, due to my family only having 1 vehicle! Now we just purchased our second vehicle, and that frees up my truck to go hunting again!!! Wooo!
I will be heading south of Grande Prairie tomorrow evening and glassing the oil lease meadows and hillsides.
My firearm of choice this spring is my TC Pro Hunter 45-70, with a 20"Katadin barrel.
my load will consist of 25.5 grains of IMR SR4759, with a little dacron to hold the charge against the primer. This tends to give me around 1475 fps with my 415 grain round nosed flat point. Decent bear medicine.
my alloy is 18lbs wheel weights + 8feet of 50/50 lead/tin solder, air cooled. The bullets expand a little, but I havent found too many inside anything I shoot!

my back up rifle is a new aquisition that I picked up at a gun show 3 weeks ago. This is a wonderful little Savage 99EG, in 30-30 Winchester. A unique little rifle, but fun as heck to shoot!

i havent had much time to develop any cast bullet loads, but I have found one load that shoots into an inch at 100 yards! I was suprised it shoots so well, so easily! BONUS!
this load is 34.5 grains of leverevolution under a 160 grain FTX.

I can hardly wait to get some cast bollets shooting out there! I am going to try the Lyman 311291, 180 grain round nose seated to the rifling. This is where the rotary magazine shines! I can JUST barely reach the rifling mind you! Gotta test those loads!
Here is a link to a bear I shot in Northern BC a few years ago. I shot it with a cast boolet & sabot at around 225 yards. Cast boolets rock!
