Barnes 300BLK 90GR ZC OTFB Item # 30733

I guess this is for California

The zinc will help keep the weight done hence the 90gr. Cheap to produce, makes the tree huggers "happy" and sells product. Good job Barnes. (Unless you count this as "giving in")

I wonder how the accuracy is though. I bet the BC isn't the best.

Barnes may be on to something that could prove profitable, in places outside of California... They could stuff those zinc cored lightweights into larger cartridges and get extreme velocities. There are some that would be sold on the high muzzle energy figures alone, and I imagine there will be salesmen and magazines promoting them that way... "We don't need no stinkin' sectional density!" :groner:
I pity the good guys caught up in the politics of Liberal Dems. I hope to never need to resort to using Zinc as my primary alloy .

I wonder how casting a zinc boolit would go. Iron molds and your pot maxed dialed up on temp? Powder coating would work, as I doubt most lube sizers would be happy sizing them much.

I hear zinc is worse than lead for the environment.

nope it's good for you don't you read your vitamin bottles...

hmm 90grs in a 300 b.o.
you should be able to hot about 2500 fps with that.
pretty impressive for a case that's about as big as a 357 case.

the bullet will be deemed illegal as soon as someone trots out a pistol though.

IIRC zinc is not on the list as prohibited metals to make a pistol bullet out of, while copper is.
No lube is required with zinc as it is self lubing.

Sounds like a rehash of the old Hi-Vel line of bullets.

the old jugular bullets were zinc and they would zing along at about 5 million fps.
I remember the write ups about how great they worked [at 14 feet] then they disappeared by the next edition.

I'm betting these are a zinc core with a copper jacket.
hmm 3500+ fps from an 0-6, that could be pretty fun on the ground squirrels.
