Budzilla 19 shocked me today, (THANK YOU)

and i received some cast 154 and 130GC boolits in the mail, to try out in my 30-30 Marlin ballard grooves

was hoping someone here would help me with a starting load with H4895 applying the 60% rule for a reduced load,
for a 30-30 winchester-case
hodgon's site has nothing for the two in cast, nor anything in the 4th ed CBH

thank you

john

Google is your friend. So is a search of this site. If you Google "4895 with cast in 30-30" you'll likely get your answer. There's likely data in some of the handbooks available for download at Castpics. Regards, Woody

edited to add: Lyman Cast Handbook #3 shows for a 122 grain cast 4895 at 24.2 gr. for 1661 fps and 12.8K cup and tops at 35.4 gr for 2460 fps at 30.3K cup.

that same 24gr load would be a fine place to start with the heavier ones too.
in fact I use 24.5 grs of aa-2230 and H-322 in my 30-30's under a couple of different 150gr boolits. [so the slower 4895 I know is a fine place to start]

rabbits hate me, and I'm sure deer know I have it loaded cause they won't come near me whenever I carry that combination around during the hunt.
