My wife loves her 243 with cast. It produces groups well under an inch at 100 yards using 4198 for 1800 FPS. and boolits from an old Lyman 87 gr. RNGC Loverin style mold. The rifle is a Mossberg ATR.

RCBS 244-95 FN, NOE 246-75 FN; have used Red Dot, RL-7, 4759, 4227,Trailboss. The RCBS has shot well with everything I have tried to date that would be my mold recommendation. My production rate with the RCBS mold is pretty close to my (5) cavity NOE mold.

12 - 14 grs of Trailboss with either of the above is a nice reasonably flat shooting plinking load. My daughter has been shooting Trailboss & Reddot loads since she was 8 yrs old. We shoot 2 liter and 1/2 liter bottles filled with colored water between 60 & 175 yds.

Lyman #245496. An 84 grain Loverine. Over 11.0 grains of Unique.
This load is just plain easy. Has just enough pressure for a case neck gas seal. Powder burns very clean.

This one, I used to use this boolit in my 7400 and it did well ( if the rifle didn't jam up every so oft,).
Alas it sits idle until another 243 crosses my threshold, the 7400 went bye bye.

Another vote here for Lyman #245496 @ .244"! As for propellants, Unique (aptly named!) AA 5744, WC 820/AA #9, H/IMR 4198 all have worked very well for me.

I wonder how surplus CSB-1 would work in the .243?

RCBS 95gr SP here. 15-16gr IMR 4198 or 2400 at about 1770fps and under 1" at 100yds in 3 different rifles.
1/16 hollow point 3/8 deep is explosive on varmints with straight COWW.

I had the same problem recently. Picked up a single shot Rossi in 243 for less than $200. Seem to be lots of them around even though production ceased, according to reports. Works well and my neck sizer's back in use.

anybody use "WAP",H4894 or Titewad for reduced/mousefart loads,

Never tried any sub sonic “mouse fart” loads. However the 11.0 grains of Unique I mentioned. When fired from my 26 inch barrel at least. Just yields a sharp crack instead of the boom like you get from rifle powders with a heavier charge. Load should be around 1,950 fps although I’ve not clocked it. It’s also an Ackley chamber. Thing to do would be to reduce loads until you didn’t get a case neck seal then step it back up half grain. Faster powder like 700X would give lower pressure at the muzzle where sound is made with the same chamber pressure. Due to lighter powder charge. Old Lyman book list the accuracy load with 84 grain bullet as 8.5 grains 700x for 1,684 fps 30,500 c.u.p.

I got Alliant Relaoder #7 to shoot after much playing around. With 18.0 grains for 2040 fps with Saeco 87 grain boolit. Issue was there was only a half grain powder charge difference between to much speed for accuracy and to low pressure for consistent powder burn with low E.S. Also left a dirty gun and brass. Rx7 is one small step slower than 4198. Looks like 4198 under a 95 grain RCBS is the slowest powder people are listing over the years as a pet load. I think 4895 may prove to be more problematic than the Rx7. The heavier 95 grain bullet would of course help get the slower powders lit. Never shot any WAP so can’t comment. I’d sure give it a try if that’s what I kept in stock. I used Unique because I buy it in 4 pound cans for revolver loading.

+1 on Lyman 245496 sized .244. Works well with several different powders.

You can use the Lyman 245496 as cast with 13 gr 2400 very accurate If you want to try something different follow my thread
