Just a little update on my venture into muzzleloading firearms, mainly I want to thank everyone who pushed me toward primitive arms over inlines and especially BrianL who sold me a gun and has been much help over the past months emailing back and forth with me. I have really enjoyed working up a load for this gun and I think I have something that will serve me well. Since everyone loves pics I'm gonna share a few the target is at 50 yds and the steel is at 80.

nice round ball gun but you also can shoot 250 grain .451 or .452 cast boolits in a sabot very very accurate. with 100 grains of powder behind that bullet in a sabot, 180 to 200 yards shots are not that hard.

Im sure the gun is more than capable of 200 yds but there is no way I could be precise with irons at that range.

Two hundred yards is about the maximum range of round ball rifles because the round ball has a very aerodynamic design. Conicals are much more streamlined and carry further.

For example, Confederate Sharpshooters got well documented hits on Yankee soldiers at ranges up to 800 Yards using iron sights on their .577 Caliber Enfield Naval and Short Rifles. They also normally used imported British ammo.

OOPS!!! I meant to say in the sentence above:

"....because the round all has a very POOR aerodynamic design..."
