I have a S&W 629 magnaported and I use cast bullets exclusively. Used from light 44 Specials to very heavily loaded 325 gr. GC loads. Been doing so for years with no problems. Not sure a jacketed bullet has ever been used in this revolver.

I believe some manufacturers cautioned against it, and it can build up in some muzzle break designs. I vaguely remember my brothers early Marlin Guide Gun mentioning something about it. His shoots cast exclusively, and very well. He gets a little gray residue around the ports, but it wipes right off. i wouldn't worry at all.

Another +1 for cast in a ported barrel. I have a 357mag that is ported and have had no issues with over 3000 rounds fired.

I have currently have 5 handguns that are magnaported , been using MP handguns for over 20 years with no problem with cast , just some lead build up on the sides of the front sights base that can be removed with a pre 1981 copper penny

Since 1983 in a 7 Rem. Mag. Early 1990`s in M 29 .44 Mag. and also early 1990`s in .416 Taylor. All with no problems.Robert

Yes, but you may get lead buildup in the ports and on the front sight or rib
near the ports. Just scrape it off with a hardwood scraper and you are good
to go. A light film of grease in the affected area helps keep it free, but isn't
easy to keep in place or really necessary. This only happens on a ported
Mountain Gun in .44 mag with hot, no GC loads and in the comp of my
.38 Super with HOT loads and naked bases.

The red insert will get dark gray and lead will build up at the port. Hoppes takes mine off. http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n420/joe1944usa/Mag-na-port29.jpg

I have a Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 Mag that is MNP'ed and it shoots great with plain base and gas checked bullets. The front site does get pretty messy in extended shooting sessions though.

Hardcast416taylor, is your 7mm mag MNP'ed, how is it? I'm assuming it's a rifle? I was pondering having a rifle Magnaported in the future. I have two pistols MNP'ed but I was wondering if it would be more effective on a longer rifle barrel with a higher pressure cartridge.

Had my S&W M-57 magnaported in 1980. No problems. Have fired several thousand cast lead boolets through it with mild to wild loads. The little bit of gray leading that gets on the sides of the front sight and the front of the magnaport cuts wipes off easily.
