Cast buckshot reloads tearing hulls apart

I cast some 00 Buck with a water dropped alloy of 1.5% tin and 3% antimony, using a Lee mold, and loaded them in 9, 12, and 15 pellet shells. I used brand new Cheddite and Rio hulls, Precision Reloading gas seals, followed by either a 1/8" nitro card or 1/2" fiber wad, depending on the number of pellets in that particular load. No shot cups were used, and all loads were topped with a 0.03" overshot card and fold crimped. The 9 pellet loads contained 20gr of Promo, and the 12 and 15 pellet loads contained 35gr and 32gr of Blue Dot respectively.

So I went out to the range yesterday and fired all of these buckshot loads out of my Vepr 12. Much to my surprise, EVERY SINGLE ONE did this to the hulls:

The bases of the hulls look fine, and the gun still ejected them with no issues. Has anyone ever seen this issue before? My hypothesis is that the rough spots on the pellets resulting from the 3pc buckshot "chains" being cut apart after casting allowed them to latch firmly onto the walls of the hulls when under pressure, and thus took a chunk of the hulls with them as they were fired, rather than sliding free from the hulls.

I use a wad, my shells are fine after being shot.
If you do not want to use a wad, try some buffer.
The buck shot is being moved causing them to expand and rub the wall.

Wow. I've never seen that; but then I use a wad which seems to protect the hull. Probably provides some protection to the barrel as well.

I've seen this, use teflon wrappers. I did some with and some without, the ones without look just like that. I was using Cheddite with gas seal bluedot and 15 00, the teflon makes a huge difference.

Use a shotcup type wad.

Definitely getting shredded by the pellets, as you said. Mylar or teflon wrappers or a wad will fix it. If you don't have data for a wad, I have lots of shotgun manuals and could probably help dig something up.

Try a pinch of graphite to coat shot. A little goes a long way.
