I would appreciate a chart or a specific top punch for lube sizing on a Lee .459-405gn HB bullet like in this link! Lee doesn't suggest a top die since they want me to use their alox and either tumble lube or hand lube and size with their sizer! I have contacted Lyman and RCBS with no good help! Graf's tech support told me to use a #191 top punch Lyman, so bought it! Nope, that isn't! So, by your experience, any thoughts? I have done the JB weld trick with the #191 punch and filled the die, and seated the bullet I casted in the JB weld to make what will work, but I want a top punch that does fit without buying 200 top punch dies trial and error! http://www.titanreloading.com/%E2%80%A6/45-70%E2%80%A6/lee-sc-mold-459-405hb

I use the Lyman 190 with that mold.

I just use flat top punches with hollowpoint or flat point boolits. I have a lyman 450 with a little misalignment and using a fitted top punch causes unequal sizing on some boolits. The flat punch does a much better job for me.

Do you have a link or chart that shows the 190 punch, and the bullet profile comparison? I had that suggestion before, but they said the "flat" of the punch is too wide for the bullet!

The sizer I'm using is a 4500 Lyman, and the size die is a .459 since the bullet is casted at .460 and the bore on my Rolling Block is .459 and my '86 is .458! I'm not sure on what you are describing bu using a flat top punch! Please explain that a bit more! My boolet is a Hollow Base bullet with a ridge, and I really don't want to deform it!

The flat punch is just flat. There is no cup to fit the ogive of the boolit. The boolit self-aligns in the sizer.

Go to the bottom of this page. Click on Castpics. Click on the bench. Then click on top punch references. Lee to Lyman/RCBS top punch conversion chart is the top one. Everything you could need is right there.

Ps. Long story short. You want Lyman/RCBS top punch #374

he is referring to a 1/4X20 thread bolt with the head ground flat.
yeah we're cheap.
but it works on everything with a flat nose.

I thought that it was a FN nose as well, but if you click the link, you will find it is now a RN style. Or the image is incorrect on the site. No wonder he is having problems getting a decent fit. Dusty

Yepp! It is nearly round nose! The flat is the size of the hole in the sprue plate! I talked with a guy at Buffalo Arms, and he suggested 600 or 607 RCBS! I now the 191 Lyman isn't it!
Thanks y'all, I will check the conversion chart!

Looks like it should be Lyman 374.

I never use the screw to hold the top punch in the press but stick some lube on the shank and let it stick up so it floats to the center. I was taught this years ago by a master class shooter.. I like the flat tops as the will make a small metplat on the RN's
