Other than the miscellaneous electrical hardware, is this what I need to build a PID for my melting pot?

The only thing that is missing is a box and power supply

Power supply? The PID needs a DC source?

Yes, that's the equipment, generally, however, the thermocouple is a very short one; if you're planning on this for a lead pot, you need a longer one to stick into the pot.

I just built one from a kit supplied by Frozone, mine has the MyPin PID. I don't know about the model in the ebay listing. I also don't particularly like the heat sink; mine is a nice flat one that sits on the back of the box.

Here's a pic of the guts, and the final product:

You can see the heat sink on the back; the SSR is a very small unit that screws onto the heat sink, and then there's some thermal grease to make a good thermal connection between the SSR and the heat sink.

Appears to me it's 120 vac powered.

You will need a deg C to deg F converter chart! I hate units that only display in C. So easy to do them both. We think in F 'round these parts.

If you haven't read this thread, it may be of use to you:

That's a Rex C100 PID. As bj said, it will only read in *C (no big deal, I just stuck a conversion chart onto my housing), it is also a relay output, so won't work with an SSR as is. Easiest way to fix it is to open it up, remove the relay and replace it with a couple of wire links - assuming you feel capable of doing this, of course. You will also need a longer probe.

It's annoying that people persist in selling these "kits" that cannot work as they're sold.

These bits can be bought on ebay, out of Hong Kong, somewhat cheaper. Just do a search on "PID controller".

I would buy this for a few $ more. Located in US and is a Mypin controller.

The RexC100 is the cheapest to buy but that one (original post) has a RELAY output not SSR like you need. You can get them either way but you have to check the specs to see which one you're getting. And as another soul on here having problems with the SSR is finding out, they apparently come with either AC or DC inputs so that's another thing you have to know when you order. My guess is most PID's put out a DC signal not AC.

I posted this on a thread and then later on about the type K probe and wiring:

I have the same kit that Mongoose33 has and it is a keeper.
