I was at the irpc range this weekend as a guest .we were checking out the 600 yd target and I picked up several very large cast boolits roughly .457 and wheing in excess of 511 gr ( that's as high as my teeter totter will go) just curious if he was a member here? That's quite a poke for big chunk o lead and he's pretty accurate too I found em all within a couple inches of each other! Kudos!! Heck of a shot!:bigsmyl2:

These guys that shoot 45-70's at long range (1000 yds sometimes) know the deal. I think most of them shoot black powder cart's. Imagine that beatin shooting smokeless !!@!!!@.

If you mean Spooner, WI, Jerry H. used to run BPCR matches there about 10-12 years ago. He was one of the best. Won the long range at Lodi one year. Won the long range match in Virginia, MN several years.

Can't help you ID'ing the shooter. But Spooner is near the town where I was born and raised: Frederic, WI, in the Indianhead area, about 20 miles from the St. Croix river. Beautiful country. And some very good hunting and fishing.

Yeah, 45-70, 45-90, 45-120, all will handle 500gr bullets way out there. When I had a 45-120, I shot 510gr out to 300, but about it.

Haven't shot there, but used to go up there for a fishing vacation a couple times a year. Beautiful country!
