I've been getting a high percentage of misfires in my SW40C when loading with mag primers. (.38-40 Lyman bullet, 5 grs. Unique, CCI small pistol mag primers). Are mag primers harder than standards? The firing pin impressions look anemic, but I don't have any standard primers available right now to compare them to. No problem with factory Winchester Ranger ammo.

Magnum primers have thicker cups than standard primers, so your report doesn't surprise me. I can't see a need for magnum primers using Unique in 40 S&W.

Well, I ran into a great buy at a gun show on some old CCI mag primers and I use them for practice. $5 a M.

$5 a M might explain the missfires.................

mag primers are harder and cci mags are the hardest of the hard.

I've always found CCI to be the hardest, Winchester in the middle, and Federals the softest. My old Savage 219 isn't 100% with anything other than Federals, the mainspring is weak.

Hmmmm..... You live in NEB., it can be cold there, right? Have you tried removing the striker/firing pin/spring assembly and cleaning all the gunk & goo out and then giving it a light oiling? Just a thought.

I had some Remington LPP that I was having a lot of trouble with, thought it was my new Gaucho, but my Ruger SBH was also missing a few. Noticed when I bought them they were in the boxes upside down and right side up jumbled up, then after a lot of furustration I noticed that thew were of a different color inside. I concluded that they had been mixed at the shop as some were the same color as LRP. Used the rest in rifles and got some Fedral LPP and no more problem.

Well, it turns out that the primers were o.k. I loaded up a few rounds of 9mm for my ac4l p38 and they all fired with no problems. I have not disassembled the pistol further than just field stripping, but it appears that the firing pin moves freely and protrudes adequately. I think I'll just send the Sigma down the road and buy a 1911 for a carry gun.
