I have fired many pounds of lead down range in 50 years, as a schuetzen shooter it has all been breach seated or stop ring bullets. I need a few pointers concerning fixed ammo. I have a Swiss martini in 9.3x53 rimless that I wish to hunt deer with, it has a 16.75 twist. I want to shoot a 290 gr plain base bullet. The bore slugs .363 the bullet as cast 25 to 1 is .364 & 1.16 long. My problem is due to the throat the bullet has to be seated with about .375 extending into the case beyond the shoulder. Will this be a problem? I will probably load BLC(2), large rifle primer. I will probably use Lee liquid alox as a lube. I have a 2nd mold that throws a .9 long, 220 grain plain base slug that is .362. It seats just off of the rifling with the base right where the shoulder begins. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Off topic - I was stationed at Ft Riley back in 66-68. Guess things have changed since then. Only 3 posts in 3 years, welcome to the forum. Hope the experts can help you.

I have had no noticeable problems with boolits seated with the base below the
shoulder a bit, but I am no expert on it. Had to, so I did, and it worked. Not
a lot of proof of what may happen in slightly different situations.

Other than lube contaminating the powder, it should be fine. The 220 grain in that caliber should kick a deer's behind just fine BTW.

This is the .357 mag. discussion (as being adequate) shifted into the range of the .358 Win., the .35 Whelen and other big case .35s. Less gun will do the job, and more is more sure, but a .375 H&H isn't necessary either (though I like it).

Your diameters may be a bit small. Try the .364 and see if it works OK. I don't think the .362 boolit is gonna work well without some diameter help. If not, powder coating seems to be a workable solution for increasing diameter. I'm gonna try it in my .375 Win. BB94 (.377+ groove), cast RCBS .375 - 250 FN casts at .377. Not big enuf. Hope PC makes it get all better! Seating the boolit below the case neck is not a problem as long as your lube is "hard" to avoid powder contamination. On the other hand, hard lubes probably also aren't gonna work well. If your velocity goal is less than 1600 fps or so, 45-45-10 is probably a good lube to try. No exp. with the rifle or cartridge so my comments should be considered a SWAG. Good luck. Pilgrim
