Anyone have experience with this stuff? I got a 5 gallon bucket of WW today, and went out to buy some 50/50 solder.... I couldn't find any, in the short time I had to look. The Farm and Fleet, and Menards lumberyard had 95/5 Solder (95% tin, 5% antimony) I guess this changes the whole Lyman #2 formula. So is the general idea to use 1/2 # of this vs 1 full pound of 50/50?

Thanks,
Doug

Yep, that's pretty close to it.

Are you actually gaining something by having the extra antimony?

94DOUG you must be in the Eau Claire area. Don't tell me you drink that Leinenkugels beer from Chippewa Falls, you know the stuff that has an indian on the label. I heard she, well lets just say she Blesses every bottle. he he he I grew up in that area. Back when the police radios weren't as fast as my cars.

antimony is the actual "hardener" in lead alloys. One of the reasons WW metal responds so well to heat treating.

Tin on the other hand helps the lead flow better. thus making it easier to fill out a mold or casting.

When you start looking at formulas for type metal you do see a bunch of tin but not nearly as much as antimony!

As far as the 95/5 is concerned? If it's blended evenly your only adding 2.5% anitmony to your alloy and I don't see that as a negative.

Make your formula changes as needed for the 95/5 and remember the bigger the batch the more consistant the alloy.

I use the same stuff from Fleet Farm to help fill out when needed. A good source of tin. I add about a three or four foot section only, go from there and water drop as usual.
