Just saw this and was wondering if this is "Internet hype" or the real deal. If it is true then I hope that everyone that bought up the green tip to resell at much inflated prices learns something from this.

How can anything be published without having information?

The publisher got that info from somewhere didn't he?

He published the info he received so how can it be a publishing error?

It's in response to the published guide. The reclassification is real but hasn't been finalized yet.

Two separate issues. Ban would take effect upon publication in CFR. The mistake in the ATF publication has no bearing on anything.

The "error" is an "error" only because someone noticed the "error" before March 16. If you believe they haven't been working on this for some time now, I have some land I will sell you in Saudi Arabia, real cheap. They just keep chipping away, piece by piece.

don't think for 1 instant this isn't backpedaling. I'm a publisher. This wasn't a publishing error.

The error was that it was published before they went through the sham of a hearing process. It got released too soon...that was all.

"It simply means that they announced its adoption and implementation prematurely."

Meaning ..."before the public got wind of it".................

It was merely a trial balloon. The full on assault is to come.

They ain't dropped nothing - just looking for an openning that's clear to slip it into our backs

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is shelving a proposal to ban a popular but highly lethal type of bullet, amid opposition from gun-rights advocates and hundreds of members of Congress.

The agency said in a statement on Tuesday it would not seek to issue the final guidelines "at this time." The proposal pertained to M855 "green tip" ammunition, used in the AR-15 rifle, which regulators looked at banning because it can pierce police body armor.

The ATF said it would instead wait until Americans have finished commenting on the federal regulations and evaluate their comments and suggestions before "proceeding with any framework."

The statement follows 52 senators and 238 House members joining in opposition to any attempt the Obama administration might make to ban the ammo.

"This attack on the Second Amendment is wrong and should be overturned," said Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., who started the petition. "A clear, sizeable majority of the House agrees.”

Armor-piercing ammunition for handguns has been banned since 1986 as a way to protect police officers.

The agency also said the decision was based on the "overwhelming interest in this issue and the issues raised in the comments received.”

The ATF said it has received more than 80,000 public comments and that an overwhelming number were critical of the proposal.

The Justice Department will make a final decision when all of the comments are reviewed.

Gun rights groups have argued that the ammo ban would be a backdoor attempt to ban assault weapons.

The weapons would still work without the M855s but they would no longer be capable of firing body-armor piercing ammo.

What Road Apple Horse Huey - blatant propaganda

100 million firearm owners in the US and only 80,000 comments? It's no wonder we are constantly fighting.

Yep, they got caught doing things behind our backs and now "its a mistake" or we need more research. That kind of bull is typical double speak for " we will have to be sneakier next time". They should all be fired!

Local Klebleland Newxs says that the issue has been "shelved" Well, that's like saying if the vicious dog didn't bite you yesterday, he won't bite you tomorrow.
Of course the mongrel in the WH has nothing to say about this.
P.S. Where did the BARF SMILIE go?

:holysheep Unless the construction of the soft body armor has changed,a well pointed ice pick will penetrate it.I was told this by a LEO.Was he full of hot air,or what ever?
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

Any fully or mostly jacketed 223 ammo could likely penetrate body armor at "handgun range" so banning 223 AP ammo that could be fired from a "pistol" would really be a moot point. Actually in many cases you might be better off ( more survivable) shot with AP than a softpoint.

While the ATF is feeling somewhat 'humble', we should keep up the letter writing campaign to ATF ... and keep pressure on Senators and Congressmen to pass legislation to strip the ATF of the power to regulate ammunition.
