I'm on a work trip to London. I made it over just fine, but my coworkers luggage and my luggage is lost. I'm washing clothes in the sink and hoping and praying they can find the bags and deliver them. Travel is wayess fun than it sounds.

I hate traveling nowadays. Don't worry, I'm sure your luggage is safe and sound in Belgium. Or Sweden. Or Nigeria.

Air Canada, get there on Friday, your bags arrive Monday by bus...

It has been a long time since I've had to check luggage. I always try to get by with carry on and I'm generally successful with that. Business attire is tough and unless it's a short duration trip, checked luggage often becomes a necessary evil. There are lots of tricks to packing, including sending your luggage ahead by FedEx if your hotel will accept it and hold it for you. With casual clothes and moderate weather I can get by for a week with a carry on bag and an urban destination. If the weather is severely hot or cold, the destination is rural or business attire is needed daily, it gets tough!
The good news is- if you're staying in the same place for several days your luggage will usually find you in a day or two. Some airlines seem to be better than others but most people I talk to say that generally is works out.

Did you fly Delta airlines. I was told it is Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive (D.E.L.T.A.). by a luggage handler when they "lost" my luggage.

I average about 50k miles a year flying for my job. I've done so for the last 15 years.
Believe it or not, I've only had my luggage delayed twice.
More often than not, your luggage will be fine.
It annoys me endlessly that delta charges infrequent flyers for checking luggage. All it does is compel folks to try and carry everything on, which by the way just makes a giant casino in the plane.

I always travel with a day or 2 of clothes in a carry on. Delta has been good to me with no lost or delayed luggage and I used to fly quite a lot. One time a lady friend of mine had her bags misplaced on a plane heading to Palm Beach, FL. All it took to find her bag was to scan a barcode she was given when she checked her bag. We were told instantly told what plane the bags were on. Delta intercepted her bags when they got to Palm Beach and rerouted them back to us within 3 or 4 hours.

Now with that said, I have seen bags absolutely squashed at Hartsfield. I mean flat- very flat. One time I saw on baggage handler monkey drop an aluminum case with my Win. Model 71 .348, Win. Model 70 .300 WSM, and Smith 629 from waist level one time while putting it on a plane enroute to New Mexico. I about went thru the window to get to him over that!

I have been lucky I guess, only arrived without baggage once and it was no problem because I was going home. It was a 2 hundred round trip to the airport though. The airlines have contractors to hand deliver your luggage, the one that delivered mine lucked out because I hadn't left town when the plane came in with my luggage and he had the sense to call me and let me know he was headed my way. I was at gander mountain on the outskirts of town, so he only had to drive15 miles and get paid for 200. lol
A friend of mine flew up here last winter and no luggage. He ask what he was suppose to do as he was headed to work and all of his artic gear was now lost. They told him to go buy new gear and keep the reciepts, even after he told them they were talking a couple grand. He didn't because he actually didn't need it for a few days, and his came in before that, but if he had wanted to he could have got a whole new set of gear.

I always have a spare set of clothes in my carry on. The wife and I also put some clothes for each of us in each suitcase if we check 2 bags.

I am hardly a frequent flyer but have been lucky enough to never have a lost bag.

If I can't get there by truck, boat, foot, bike, or horse I have no desire to go. Never lost a bag that way. Didn't much care for the flying experience pre911 I doubt they'd let me through the commy checkpoints now.

Used to travel a lot all over Europe and former soviet countries for business. They lost
my bag once for a week - I went to Ukraine, it went to Moscow (which we didn't even
pass through on that trip!?). The nice guy at Turkish Airways (they had the last leg,
so were responsible to fix Delta's screwup) in Ukraine was extremely helpful, finally
got my baggage to me in Georgia (the country) a week late, but intact.
I always had spare underwear and an extra shirt in my carry on. Toiletries are
readily available anywhere. Did wind up buying another shirt.

Supposedly my luggage is on its way. My coworkers is yet to be found. I've only had it his happen once before this bad. Delta treats me well. This time it is with US air and British Air.

Thanks for all the comments!

Travel is wayess fun than it sounds.

This is a true statement, regardless to lost luggage adventures.
Airlines in general oversell the planes by 10%, reduce the amount of available flights and in general make getting from A to B a trial.

I've got well over 1,000,000 miles with delta and I don't know how many miles on other airlines and my luggage was only ever misplaced for more than a day once. That was on a 3 week vacation, it showed up 2 days before we went home. When traveling for work I would just buy new stuff and expense it.

Nothing new here....... Went on job interview way back in 1981.... I arrived on time at about 10pm, luggage arrived at hotel at 3pm the next day as I was checking out. Interviewed in Street clothes the whole day . This was in the day of no 24hour stores. Needless to say, I didn't get the job. Spent more time explaining and apologizing than answering questions. Last time I didn't have either a carry-on with appropriate clothes, or wearing a set.

Fortunately, I had packed an extra shirt and underwear. And even more fortunately, my luggage showed up tonight. My poor coworkers luggage has yet to be found 48 hours after we handed our luggage to them.

US Air.... oh... that explains a lot. I would rather walk.... The only thing I have heard about their customer service is they got rid of that department because their service was so bad. Customer service reports got better after that because nobody could complain.

After having my luggage lost on two occasions I always have carryon with toiletries and at least a change of clothes.
