That is an interesting picture Wilco.
There is a cartridge is in the air and the bolt of the rifle is back, so far so good.
But, the lever appears to be all the way up with the bolt still back!
Interesting!!!

A pump maybe?

It is a slide action made by Burgess. The grip is the slide. Similar to a pump but works from the other end of the action frame. Mike did an article on it.

DING! We have a winner. His hand conceals the bulbous sliding metal pistol grip shoe.

Hey Guys, thanks for thinking of me. I haven't been here for a bit but have lurked a few times. I'm not mad at anybody. I've just been swamped with work and having some health problems. My heart was damaged by a cardiac infarction in '02 and now doesn't pump up to par. The result is I tire easily. Also I am having a lot of lower back trouble. I can still shoot and do most of what I want but rest more than I used to. Still do a lot of casting too. I'll try to be more active.

I have all of Mike's books and he was so kind to sign each one when I purchased them. I for one could not wait for Mike's next BP article.
I have had to wade through several WW11 weapon articles of late but I know where his heart is as all I have to do is pick up one of the books and start reading. I was doing some 45-70 reloading the other day and came across a question in my mind that I could not recall the answer for. That was taken care of by pulling out my Shooting Buffalo Rifles Of The Old West. My question to myself was answered and the loading continued. Nothing but the Best Wishes For You Mike. I always respect Mike's opinion and enjoy his articles. A lot of what he writes has played out correctly for me at the range. Hey Mike , know anything about a new barrel company called caliber barrels? I just ordered a blank from them for a prone rifle. They are supposedly headed up by former employees of McGowan and remington.

They had been having some start up issues with poor barrels. I have heard the quality is starting to get better. I would give them another year to get their act together.

Darn you Mike! I bought this book you wrote about shooting lever action rifles a number of years ago. At the time I didn't own a Lever Action....Now I have over a dozen! Including a few I spent some of the kids inheritance on! Whitney Kennedy, 1873 etc....And I even dress up as a dang cowboy and shoot these things every weekend! Darn You!

But it gets worse! Bought some darn book on Buffalo Rifles! A Ballard, Sharps 1874 and 1875, a few highwalls!!! Near nothing left for the kids......And now I'm cutting pieces of paper to patch bullets!

What have you done to me!!!!

(BTW..Hope you feel better and get back to full speed)

Thanks again guys for the kind words and support. Since I posted last I have adopted two more collies. Their elderly owner died and they had nowhere to go so I brought them home. That makes four collies and two dashund crosses. Good thing we live in the country, have a large fenced back yard and no close neighbors. I guess I'm a product of the Lassie generation.

Reading Mike's stuff got me interested in more than the Win 30-30's I grew up shooting. In fact, he started a life long addiction to old lever actions that has not stopped. Along with this forum firing my imagination in casting my own boolits I am far poorer but much happier.

For anyone who doesn't already know, Mike Venturino had open-heart surgery last week and has probably been regaling his doctors and nurses about the crazy folk he's met on this forum. He just posted a note on FB that the doctors are thinking about releasing him on Saturday. So...He may be writing again in the future with a better operating pump in his chest!

Mike

glad to hear you are home. I remember while recuperating from Cancer this last time, the Dr had me on a very restricted regime. Much to my wife surprise, he wouldn't let me go shoot, but he said I could reload! (As long as it didn't make me too tired).

Hang in there, and follow that cardio rehab.

Got an instant message from Mike the other day in a response to a question I sent him about a cast bullet article in a recent Handloader issue. Mike is doing better but he has some more work ahead of him still. He does get on the forum on a regular basis to read the various posts even though he doesn't often type a post himself so I'm sure he'll probably see this post also and know his advice was very helpful for me and my problem.
