I know it's generally considered unsafe to shoot damascus-steel barrels on older shotguns, but I was wondering...

What if I got a pair of those 20ga. liners that converts a 12ga to 20ga and used that in the damascus double-barrel? Could it be done safely and without ruining the damascus barrels (causing them to unravel)?

I'm wondering more about vibrations from the firing than the pressure.

(Would win the COOL factor at the local cowboy shoot though! )

I've heard a lot of beautiful classic old shotguns have been brought back into shooting condition with Briley sub-gauge inserts. Never tried it myself, but it's worth a phone call to Briley.

I would think it's no problem. The basic problem with the Damascus barrels is that there is no way to tell if there is rust inside the welds. Putting an insert into the barrel solves this problem.
