Hello Folks,

I’d like to hear comments on this passage. What are your thoughts? I’ll add that the Hodgdon data web site claims 1887 fps for this bullet in the 41 Rem Mag from a 10-1/8” barrel. Gary Reeder gets 1980 from a Contender with unspecified barrel length, so it appears the 41 Magnum nearly equals the 41 GNR in velocity.

“That load is ** grains of Winchester 296 and the 170 grain Sierra JHP bullet. That one load has taken literally thousands of head of game in hundreds of 41 GNR revolvers and barrels since then. That little 170 grain JHP bullet that gun writers claim is only good for coyotes and foxes has taken animals as big as 700 pound bull elk and 500 pound bull caribou and most with one shot. That little bullet simply works.” – Gary Reeder, The Complete Reloading Manual (for all of the Gary Reeder GNR Cartridges).

Take care, Tom

Must be magic to hold the bullet together at that velocity!
