Removed the rear sight from my circa 1901 38-55 for a better sight picture using the Lyman rear sight. Bore slugs @ 377, Lyman 380681 sized @ .379 chambers nicely, shoots OK. SkeetTX's load of 30grs of 3031 shows promise, will ladder it a bit to tune the load to my rifle.
Sorry if I got the caps wrong, SkeetTX. Between the autocorrect and my notes I had no chance of getting it right. My other 38-55 (circa 1979) is strictly a BP proposition for some reason smokeless is OK for this old rifle.
Any other loads I should try? Also have LVR, IMR4895, IMR4198, IMR and H 4350, Varget, IMR4064 and a few others.
