I am a little embarrassed to post this - I have no idea how to do this.
I love casting! I have more time than anything else. I am on a very limited income.
I am offering to any and all bidders - up to the limits of my resources - .311 round balls cast from the Lee mold. I have and/or will make available to members of this board any amount of these round balls up to 10,000 total. These balls are NOT rejects, You will have to look closely to even see the part line. These balls will be auctioned off and payment will have to go to the forum administrator to assist in his ongoing expenses in running this forum.
I am serious in believing that this ball is a terrific plinking load for any of the .30 caliber rifles and most certainly as a great defense load in a shotgun.
I am currently in the process of refining a defense load (against all dangerous critters, 2 legged or 4 legged). I will post these findings as soon as I am able.
My current load is 9 or 10 .311 balls in a 12ga 2-3/4" shotshell. 9 seems to work the best from my current experiments. 10 are sometimes great, sometimes hard to load. If the 10th ball can be centered, 10 work great, if not - 9 always work.
I am offering 350 balls, shipping included, in the lower 48 for a statement from 45nut that he has received your donation in the amount of $10.00 or more. If you prefer, I will send you the equivalent amount of wheelweight ingots, or plain wheelweights.
350 balls will give you 35 loads @ 10 per shell or 38 @ 9 per shell.
10 for load development, 25 for actual use.
Freight will be the biggest cost for me. I can handle that - for awhile. After 30 or 40 so shipments, I will need assistance with shipping.
I am more than willing to up the count for anyone needing more and might be willing to ship you commercial #1 buck for the same weight amount.
My motivation is to help the board. If someone is willing to take the shipping burden, I will send all to them.
Maybe you have interest in this type of load and do not want to invest in a mold, maybe you just want the lead, maybe you just want to help with expense of running of the board but don't quite know how.
Or just tell me to just send $50 or so to 45nut?

Da Bump....Guys am I missing sumthin here? This is not a bad deal, benefits the site.
I plan on using mine for plinking loads in a .32 revolter with a squib load to punch paper at 15 yards. How can you go wrong?
Or am I missing something and just sold my inheritance down the river?????...........Lee:wink:

Lee,
You should have the round balls within the next day or two. Just a heads up - when I went to the post office and asked for the most economical rate, they handed me a "flat rate envelope". No weight limitation, $4.60 to lower 48 states.
That surprised me enough that I just handed the pack of shot to the clerk - she stuffed the pack of shot into the envelope and sealed it.
Well, I am not sure I was ready for that.... the shot was in a posterboard/plastic container taped together with masking tape.
To make a long story short - if'n there's any shipping damage, let me know and I will make it right with you. Plenty more where those came from!

Vic, a pretty good idea.. but I don't see why you should pay the freight on each shipment! For every $10 the board gets, you have to pay nearly $5! I really appreciate your offer to help out 45nut and the forum! Maybe we should just send you $15 and you can forward it on the 45nut? I'll sign up for that deal!

Lee, I'm going to send Ken $20 for 700 or so of the balls you're donating. I expect you can get those in one of the $4.60 Flat Rate Envelopes. For larger orders, just ask the clerk for some Priority Mail boxes in size Video-1 and Video-2. They're free.
Guys, it's not me that's donating the balls. It's VillageIdjit....
You should address all your correspondence to him. I merely called attention to his post because I saw no takers for 3-4 days or so. I got my 700, just have to wait for the storm to blow over........Lee:wink:
Vic, nice job on the balls. Everyone who orders should be pleased..................Lee

TD,
I appreciate your morality.
Point is, the $4.60 is my donation to the board. The casting of the roundballs is my enjoyment.
If it turns out that there are enough requests that my expense becomes uncomfortable, I would not be against asking that $15.00 go the board and they could send $4.60 to me. That way I would not have to do the bookkeeping.. HAH!
Not really, none of you know me. Send your money to the board and I will chime in if I need the help, and believe me, I will not be bashful about that one.

Winter is officially over here in NE OHIO. I got out with a Ruger single six .32 H&R Mag peestol. Loaded with 2.5g of solo1000(TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK) under one of VillageIdjits .311 round balls. I can report minute of beer can accuracy at 7 to 10 yards. Chased one of them critters all over the back yard. No louder than a .22, no recoil, and Hey Boy does an ounce of powder go a long way with these beauties. Just might be ordering up some more pretty soon:-D.........................Lee:wink:

The round balls are cast from straight used wheel weights of American Lead manufacture and I drop into water from the mold.(I just HAD to say "used")
I segregated all my wheel weights and cast into ingots by manufacture. I found around 20% to be American Lead, 25% Micro, 20% Snuggle, and the balance of various or unidentifiable manufacture. All clip on, no Zinc. Stick-ons I hardness tested by scratching them with a scribe and kept all that seemed to be as soft as roofers lead.
The current unfilled orders amount to around 2500 and as soon as I ship them, I will be switching to "Micro" brand wheel weights. That's 2100 shipped, 2500 to ship and about 5000 that I saved (all American Lead) for myself and culls that were fine for shotshell but maybe not for light weight boolits.
I have always been happy with straight wheel weights for all but the most dense loading - like the .257 Weatherby Magnum and my .270 Winchester - for which I alloyed with linotype. The kind with the letters still on them - flat plate from the printer as the shop stopped using lino.
With enough advance notice I would consider casting pure lead balls - at least nearly pure lead.
I thank ALL of you that have contributed to this effort and I will continue while my resources allow.
Vic
I am using a Lee turret press(with a name like Lee, what else COULD I use??[smilie=1:)
3 stages set, one empty.
1. size I decap and prime seperately (WW primers/Starline brass)
2. bell mouth and powder drop. Use a .30 - .34 size disk. Worked for me and drops about 2.5 grain of SOLO 1000 which is what I standardized on. (I ran up to 3 grain, no problems. Then backed off to 2.5)
3. roll crimp and seating die. BARELY seats the ball(fits nicely in the bell mouth) and then roll crimp to just barely crimp the ball.
These are run thru a Ruger .32 H&R Mag Single Six. No recoil to speak of, little dirt in the barrel, smoky cases(indicating incomplete seal and burn)
As I said OK out to 10 yards, I'll try the 600 yard steel plates when the weather breaks more(bad circulation!)
All in all a really fun "squib" load to shoot......................Lee:wink:
BTW anyone looking for .32 H&R Mag brass, try Dillon. They advertise at $17.xx /100 but when I ordered from the website, it popped up at $15.xx / 100....woohoo!!

Update coming. Two minor snags.
Monday the 17th? visitors arrived. My 35 year old baby girl and her 3 bunkins - 8, 7, and 6. Brand new to my eyes. Haven't seen her in over 17 years.
Anyhow I sent three packages on Monday with no address - that is - from me to me.
I got them Weds. and after hiding the red face from dotter sent them back out on Weds.
I am actually less available to cast boolits, but will continue and will continue with the donation offer. Lead time wil suffer, however.
I will list the current status of all orders, shipped or pending, this weekend and will try to keep the ball rolling a little more smoothly on this end.
Thanks all for the site donations I would not have been able to come close to by myself.

Today, Easter Sunday, I am ignoring all but my long lost offspring - my baby girl (35 years old, haven't seen her for 18 years) and her 3 children that I have never seen (6, 7,and 8)
I have shipped 4 orders to donors, I believe there are currently five donors waiting for their shipment.
No-one has been pressuring me to speed things up, for which I am thankful. I expect to have them all out by the first of next week (April 1). Any one having a need sooner, let me know and I will try to expedite.
Thank all of you for the donations to the board, gives me a good feeling to be part of the board and part of this effort!

Villageidjit,
It's wonderful that, on this most Holy holiday, you have long lost family to spend it with. Family is first, always. You can put my name at the bottom of the list. Enjoy them.

One person responded with his donation that he preferred "soft" alloy. I told him that I would like to finish the current list with water cooled wheel weights (before cleaning my "furnace"and starting over with soft lead), which he seemed to be very agreeable toward.
Anyone else rather have soft lead instead of WW? I have ten times more ww than soft lead but for the site I will do what ya'll prefer.
In my next status upgrade I will mention names of those who ordered in open forum and zip codes of those using PM only as the means of contacting me (unless you tell me otherwise).
Willy also informs me that in order to get official recognition, you must request it from him since some prefer to remain anonymous.
Vic
Edit - that makes two requesting soft lead...

I'm having a real ball visiting with my daughter and grandkids!
I have four orders ready to ship and expect to have the balance of the others (5 or 6) more to go ready to ship over the weekend. I plan to ship all by or before the 3rd of April.
I have decided to continue with the .311 round ball benefit offer for another month or two. Only thing is - any orders I receive AFTER the 1st of April will require shipping to be paid by the recipient. For "free" shipping, order before April 2.
I will be over $40.00 in shipping costs with current orders. The metal and my time matters not to me but the shipping is approaching my disposable income limits.
Ya'll have made it possible for me (indirectly) to contribute much more to the site than my own resources would have allowed me to and I truly appreciate all your generosity. I'm proud to be involved!

Use maximum loads only in solid frame revolvers. For top break models (in good condition) use only the suggested starting loads. Do not go higher as these pistols are of a relatively weak design.
Variations in groove diameter may be encountered. Slug your barrell before reloading and size your cast bullets to as near groove diameter as possible .
After perusing this data, I would not be too concerned if the round balls are only .312 or so. Velocities are low enough that I would expect no leading, accuracy at short range would most likely be limited to the ability of the revolver (and shooter). Power at longer ranges would not be likely to bring the issue of accuracy into the limelight. Personally, I would not be fearful at using the suggested max loads with the 44 grain round balls with their reduced inertia likely to result in a much lower pressure. I would still work up to those loadings slowly.
I am sending you air cooled wheel weight alloy round balls that measure .312 - .3125. Harder than pure lead and slightly larger than pure lead.
You might want to read the article at http://hgmould.gunloads.com/casting/32hrcast.htm for some interesting additional information
