I went into a shop tonight and on a whim asked to pick up a Glock 17, I think it was a 17 at least. It was a used 9mm full size gun, felt really good in my hand. I did not expect it to feel all that good , but it did. So I have a couple of questions. Is $350 a reasonable price for a used glock? how do I tell if it is used or used up? How do I tell how old it actually is? What do I have to watch out for with cast boolits in a glock?

That's a lot of questions young man. :)

Though there are just a huge pile of idiots there, GlockTalk is your best resource to research your pistol.

It is extremely difficult to wear out a Glock, especially a 9. Two hundred thousand rounds is fairly normal for a service life for a 17. Honest.

Three hundred and fifty is a good price.

In our handgun forum there is a sticky thread about boolits in Glocks. I find that I must water drop mine even when they are oversized as much as I can chamber. Once I do that though the Glocks just eat 'em up with zero leading with factory barrels.

Good luck, buy it and good shooting!

Although I own a few Glocks (in 10mm and .45ACP / .45 SUPER +P+), I am not a Glock fan. If you go over to GlockTalk, you'll find a lot of the Glock fanboys who think that Glock can do no wrong. They will refuse to admit that Glock doesn't have a REAL safety. They will even try to claim that a Glock is double-action. For all intents and purposes, you carry a Glock in Conditon-0, albeit with a somewhat heavier (and sloppier) trigger than a 1911.

Of the 9mm handguns that I own, I tend to be partial to my CZ-75. Not that I'm particularly a 9mm fan, but the CZ does fit in pretty close to my body while carrying it and the grips are comfortable.

"Glocks are for *concealed* carry -- because they are just so damned butt-ugly you wouldn't want to actually be *seen* open carrying one." :)

The only "9mm" that I see in my immediate future is the RIA .22 TCM (which comes with an additional 9mm barrel). It uses a .38 SUPER mag, so there's a chance that the 9mm barrel could be extended / rechambered for 9x23.

The price is good, at least in these parts. Also, ive never had a ftf that wasnt my ammos fault, ie to long oal. I pc my boolits so no leading. Im quite partial to my glocks, they just keep on truckin and gobble up most any load and keep going. Ymmv

$350.00 is a good price. I would check what generation the gun is. I bought a really nice used Glock 19 with night sights about two weeks ago for $400.00 so $350.00 is pretty good.

If it's used, the first thing I would do is replace all the springs. My trigger return spring broke at about 12k rounds on my G22.
I would only buy factory glock springs.

If cast is your goal or a lot of reloading I would get a KKM, storm lake or lone wolf barrel.

I'd just use the factory barrel and use that $100 for new springs, a magazine or two, etc.

I tend to agree with Love Life! I don't own a Glock, but my shooting partner is a Glock nut. His favorite is a model 19 and it's shot about 7K lead boolet reloads in the original barrell with nary a problem! We both use the exact same load. That's a Lee 120 TC boolet cast of wheel weights with 2% added tin, heat treated and quinched in ice water over 4.5 Unique in miscelanious cases loaded to 1.050 OAL, sized to .357 and lubed with BAC from Lars. This load will get you somewhere around 1050 FPS and tends to be a good load in anything we stuff it in. If you decide to use this load, you do so at your own risk!!!!

FWIW: I shoot this load in a full size M&P, a Shield, a915 and a 639, all Smiths. It just plain works in all of them.

Wow! Thank You for all the info to everyone. I thought it seemed like an OKAY deal but hate to go in totally uninformed. I have everything to load 9mm and seem to be all set but for the purchase. I especially like the complement about being a young man. I do remember the very first time I ever heard of a Glock was on the TODAY SHOW when Jane Pauly got all stumble tongued at the thought of a gun that couldn't be detected by metal detectors and how it would never be safe to fly to California to go tho the beach again. I am not that young but my wife still thinks I am immature at times, and I appreciate the thought.
