Pewter?

Being a newbie to casting, I'd just like to know. How and what is pewter used for in casting bullets? I've seen it in the swapping and selling forum on several occasions.

Pewter is normally 90% or so Sn. Just one of the sources for Sn to give you good mold fill-out.

Hi,

Go over to the alloy section of these forums and there is a lot of information on pewter. It's used in our lead alloys because of it's high tin content. Folks use it in small percentages to add a little tin to help fill out the mold when casting.

Uh, yeah, that pretty much sums it up!

While you're searching look for "Lead alloy calculator" in a thread by member Bumpo. Use it to find out how much pewter, solder or pure tin to add to your COWW to get a good mix. Personally I have found the best all around alloy to be on that contains equal amounts of tin and Antimony. To get this, just add enough tin to get 2-2.5% and you're golden.
