40-65 smokeless load

Can anyone recommend a smokeless powder load for a modern Browning 1895 in
40-65? I have 4227 - 4759 - 5744 - and several others. Anyone know what the max load in these powders would be? Just don't want to get close to there.
Also need help finding the quote by Elenor Rosevelt about the U.S. Marines that ended by "Thank God for the U.S. Marines".

I have had good results with the load given in the Accurate manual for the RCBS 300 CAS bullet, which is 24/5744. I add a tuft of dacron quilt batting that may not be necessary.

Lyman #48 and the latest Hodgdon manuals both have loads for the 40-65. The bullets listed are mostly around 400 grains, not the 260 grain bullet used in the original load. Ken Waters' Pet Loads also includes some load data for the 40-65 with smokeless.

I don't usually post loads for smokeless powder, as I would hate to make a typo and have you blow up your rifle. I've only loaded black powder in mine, anyway, so I can't make any recommendations for "best" smokeless powder.

...............Maas, welcome to the board! I have a Pedersoli Super Match rolling block (34" hvy bbl) in 40-65. I really prefer the RCBS 300gr slug as it has the same SD as a 405gr in the 45-70 and my local range is limited to 200 meters. I do have a RCBS 410gr mould but havn't done as much work with it.

Almost all of these used a dacron wad. Some had the wad and a cardwad under the boolit. All with Win std LR primers. Hope this provides some additional usefull info.

Thanks for the replies to my question. Found a Hodgdon manual in my "stuff".
It shows 8700 powder loads, and I have about 12 pounds of that yet, that I
bought about 20 years ago for $3 per pound. Never found any caliber that liked it. Loaded 47.5 grains of that behind a Lyman bullet weighing 414gr.
Best accuracy yet! I'd tell you how good a group at 300yds, but you may be like my good shooting buddy, and say, "Yeah well show me the groups you shot before and after that one!". With straight WW lead I get one or sometimes two fliers at 200yds. With about 20 to 1 lead I get better groups, but am out of soft lead. Before the 8700, I was using 22.5 grs of 4759. Had started at 19 grs and going up by half grain increments the accuracy kept improving, but not having any published data, thought I'd ask the board for help. Only have 120 cases for the 40-65 and wanting to take it to Green Valley, AZ for the winter wonder if I size the bullets and lubed with FWFL will they pull the lube out of each other if they're touching? Can't take everything along to load there, so is there anyone in that area willing to help an old cast shooter?
