DILLON will be on its way for repair.
question, what is the best way to clean the rock chucker? is that a rock chucker or is it a different press?
do I need to do anything to the mould? or can I just start casting once my pot arrives?
oH, GOT ALL 3 for $100:bigsmyl2:
thanks

Well, good buy! Let us know a little more about you. Are you an experienced reloader or is this your first venture into loading? My advice is very different in those two situations.

I do not recommend that anyone start climbing two separate learning curves at the same time. There are too many confusing details that matter to allow yourself to become confused in either.

As far as the RCBS press goes, some EvapoRust for the handle and a stiff brush and soap and water for the rest to start. Then you will see what you have to work with. Some oil on the ram and mount it to see how it works. Chances are that's all you need to make it functional.

Some brake cleaner spray and an old toothbrush on the mold will get it in condition to cast as long as there is no rust in the cavity.

Have you reloading dies/shell holder to hand? Have you alloy to melt in that new pot that is on the way? Details like this matter!

I know Dillon has that 'no BS' warranty and all, but wow. What's it take to crack the frame on a Dillon like that? Be sure to post pics of what you get sent back from them. You might try some evapo-rust that mold, too, if it doesn't clean up shiny otherwise.

Makes one wonder what was done to the Dillon. The failure is on the strong side of the tool head slot. Some folks could break an anvil.

crackin' walnuts is fine...but a brazil nut!....well there goes the press! warranty is only good for domestic nuts!

sorry about your luck.:bigsmyl2:

Can't imagine what the fella was doing on the Dillon. Swaging maybe? What is the lettering on the other side of the RCBS. RCII?

Looks like someone was using a metal pipe to open the sprue plate on the mold. Not a problem as it is easy to replace. The cavities need to be rust free and very clean to work properly. I use a gloved hand to open my sprues plates after they get up to temp. Don't ever use anything made of metal to open them.

Now time to start thinking about casting. You are right, casting is the best for the 45ACP. You said pot coming, which one? Do you plan on hunting down your own alloy supply and melting it into ingots? If so, DO NOT do that in your bottom pour pot. Get a separate gas fired pot, usually considerably larger, and use that to make ingots. Will you buy alloy from suppliers, then that can go directly into your bottom pour. "Lee drip" is most commonly caused by junk getting into the valve and not letting it close. If you have clean alloy there is no junk to cause this.

Yup, on that press 'RC' means Rock Chucker. Good buy, you paid only for that, and a low price too.

Loading 45ACP is easier than shotshell once you get your dies set. There is lots of information here about crimping 45ACP, search that and yiou can set your dies correctly without problem. Hope you have a mic, and know how to use it. If not that should be your next purchase. When you read those threads you will know why.
