My first real post!
Been lurking here quite a while, learned just a ton of stuff here.
You guys are great.
Had many ?s, through lurking and looking, most have been answered.

Got a new 5 qt. dutch oven the other day and was wondering if there's any prep for new cast to be used for smelting. Never had nothing new before.

Hope someone can help.

I just heat it BUT dont get it to hot.I would heat it slowly and with lead in it.
flux the mix with wax or lube just a small amount and outdoors.I would get a ladle as it might get touchy pouring.some flip and dump the load.get some cast muffin pans around $6 in hardware.Lodge brand.:coffee:[smilie=1::Fire:

Just thought there had to be more to it than that. Cast bein pourus and all. Thought some kind of seasoning might be in order. Don't need any more ladles, got 4 already. Just trying to update some old ways. Scored about 200 # recently,5qt. will go a little better than a 10# ladle.

Nobody really pours out of a pot like that, do they?

..............You could if you were set up for it. However, I don't think if what you mean is that someone just grabs ahold of it and tips it over a bunch of Lyman ingot moulds there on the ground :-) If they did I wouldn't want to be standing close by.
