Left work early today and loaded some Lyman 225438 44gr. bullets in .222, 7 gr. SR7625 and 22-250, 8 gr. SR7625. I didn't have time to drive to the range, so I just drove a couple miles from home and shot prarie dogs. This a small town and they have been hit pretty hard, so I only got four before they were all out of sight. The .222 really impressed me hitting the same place as the J-word bullets do. The first dog was at 117 yds and I hit the shoulder right where I held. DRT. The boolit did not penetrate through, but made quiet a whop when it hit. The second one was about 20 yds. closer, center of mass hit. DRT. It took Three shots to hit with the 22-250 Savage Stryker, Red Dot scope. The last two dogs were 150 + yds. with the second taking two shots. These boolits seem to shoot 4 inches higher than J-words. The red dot covers the dog at that range. I fired the rest of the loaded rounds, 20 each, at 20 oz. bottles of water and fist sized rocks. The water bottles explode impressively, and the boolits fragment on the rocks. They are WW, WC, with gas checks, lubed with 50/50, and then LLA. I hope to get to the range tomorrow and see what these do from the bench. The Stryker needs plenty of bagging to buckle down and check accuracy. May chrono them and see what they are doing. DALE

Ah, another one hooked on SMALL cast bullets. Wait until you try them HP'd./beagle

Yep. Can be kind of addictive. And you can step on that design a tad in the right throat.

No Kiddin'?. It didn't penatrate the dog?

I'm trying to get a grasp on what the capability is with these .22 cal boolit shooters.

I posted this late last night on the other 22 thread:

I ran a ballistic calculator on a 48gr SWC/HP @2400 fps showing a ballistic coefficient of 0.12, with a 200 yard range- 3" high at 100. At my 3100' elevation.

The impact trajectory shows it hitting:

-0.5 @ 0 with 2400 fps.
1.1" @ 25 with 2233 fps.
2.27" @ 50 with 2084 fps.
2.93" @ 75 with 1940 fps.
3.01" @ 100 with 1803 fps.
2.42" @ 125 with 1674 fps.
1.06" @ 150 with 1551 fps.
-1.21" @ 175 with 1438 fps.
-4.54" @ 200 with 1335 fps.

How does this compare to what you think your rifles are doing with those loads? Far less impact energy? Same bout'?

Would the -4.54" @ 200 with 1335 fps. probably not penatrate as well?

That's about what I figured The .222 would do velocity wise, it's a Rem. 721 with 24" barrel. I was very surprised that I didn't get full penetration on the dog, considered opening him up to see, but fleas and other dogs to shoot. Seeing the explosive hits on the water bottles, I thought maybe the boolit expanded well. The jacketed 45 gr. explodes dogs, but they are traveling 1000 fps faster. More testing is in order, oh well, someone has to do it. DALE
