Yeah, why water down your drinks with ice?

I posted this in another section, and thought y'all might like to see this.

These are some kind of stones that you put in your freezer. When the time comes for cooling your drink, you use these instead. Thus, no melted ice! Best of all, they work!

I'm not much of an alcohol guy, but I sure love them with my milk and cookies!
Ah! Ice cold milk with chocolate chip cookies. Not much better! (The stones last longer than a frozen mug)

I got them at Herrington online.

Without a reference to get an idea of their size, they look like canon balls to me. Any room in your glass for milk?

I wonder how pure Tin or Pewter balls would work ?

I have a set of whisky stones, the're useless. Wife has several sets of colored, plastic, glycerine-filled objects that she uses for tea, they seem to work pretty well for her, but since I pretty much drink everything either hot or room temperature (including beer, like Spoten or Guiness, I don't like beer much anyway), it never was much of an issue.

Wonder how they feel when you tip for the last sip, and the balls smack your nose?
Any none toxic material that doesn't react with acidic or alcoholic drinks should work. The calories of heat the material can absorb would make the difference.

Had an realtive that used steel balls and or marbles the same way. He worked for a bearing manufacturer and got the ground steel balls from there.

While I am sure they would work after a fashion, the rate of heat transfer and the available cooling capacity would be much less than ice. While I can understand not wanting to dilute milk or beer with more water for mixed alcohol drinks the recipe expects a certain amount of added water.

JonB, older pewter contained lead and some copper. The newer pewter contains tin, maybe antimony (poisionus), and copper.
Even current tin has some impurities in it.
The Romans used lead container to sweeten their wine but the had medical issues doing this. Even some steels may have lead in it.
I'll stick to water that has been run thru 3 filters for my ice.

Hmmm - good thought. My drink I call a Smoteroo Hotv. My own acronym, it stands for Sapphire Martini On ThE Rocks, One Olive - HOld The Vermouth. Old fashioned glass, 4 ice cubes, teaspoon of olive brine, one Queen cocktail olive, and fill 3/4 w/Bombay Sapphire. Problem is, the Sapphire is 94 proof and makes a danged fine de-icer, meaning by the time I get to the bottom, I'm drinking 50/50. I'll look into it...

I want ice cubes in my mixed drinks so hey won't stunt my growth. Sip fresh drinks REAL slowly.

Why in the world would anyone water down perfectly good scotch??? If you want it cold---store it in the fridge or freezer!!

I STORE my Sapphire gin in the reefer! It STILL melts the ice! And I like it COLD!

A little ice melt isn't going to water down a glass of scotch unless it takes you 45 minutes to drink a dram. Besides my decanter wont store well in the freezer and it looks better next to my humidor.

Vodka is kept in the freezer. Pour it in some cold orange juice in the morning and I'm a happy camper :)
I rarely drink but when I do that's how I roll

Bloody Mary (Extra peppery) as the hair of the dog will get your day started off right.

Take a 750 of vodka, a full cup of whole peppercorns and bruise the peppercorns. Don't powder them, just break them open a little. Add them to the vodka. Shake it a little once a day for two weeks. Strain the vodka. What you now have is like liquid black pepper. Awesome for seasonings, steaks, or that bloody mary. Also awesome for giving the unsuspecting guest a shot they wont forget. :D
