Here are a few questions for oldfella buckshot and anyone who has played with the m95 steyrs. Does anyone know if the lee .338 boolit takes a .338 gas check? If so where would I find some? My new to me m95 slugs out to .317x.332 and I was thinking about maybe beagaling out lees 56r mold if there was no available source of .338 GC's. I have read that the rifleing on this gun can cause some issues with oversized slugs so I wonder if I might be better off sizing to groove. Any thoughts? I am looking forward to getting this thing to shoot.(2-3" @ 100)

Quickshot,
I shoot that one in my 8x58RD, as cast. They run about .331-.332 as cast from monotype.
The boolit uses 8mm checks. The Hornady checks are flared out large enough to seal the bore at .332 or slightly larger.

ETA,Sorry but I didn't read carefully.
The bullet that I am using is the Lee .329-205

My particuar M95 8x56R loves the NEI 330-245gr. It's drops about .333 and I size to .332. I have shot them as cast with good sucess too. The riling on mine is quite deep, so I'm not sure what issues you heard about. I'm of the opinion that rifling offers more flexibilty than say Microgrove type rifling.

The Lee bullet (.329) didn't work well for me. I'm saving it for oversize 8mm's. The Lee .338 worked OK, but I got the NEI about that time and never got the Lee going after I got the NEI.

The rifling is deep and displaces a lot of lead upon slug engraving thus causing accuracy issues. That is what I meant about the rifling being a problem.
